Campaign Against Antisemitism Submits Evidence Against 14 Other Labour MPs

Reacting to Corbyn’s suspension, the original complainants to the ECHR, the Campaign Against Antisemitism notes Corbyn was only “part of the problem” and has therefore submitted complaints against a number of other Corbyn-aligned figures in the party on the grounds that each of the accused breached the Party’s Conditions of Membership as set out in Chapter 2, Clause I (8) of the Party’s Rule Book “by committing acts that are grossly detrimental to the Party in that they repeatedly contended that complaints about antisemitism in the Labour Party were (and are) simply “a smear”, victimised those making allegations of antisemitism within the Party, or engaged in antisemitic acts themselves.” The evidence over 54 pages is comprehensive.

The 14 sitting MPs named are:

  • Diane Abbott
  • Tahir Ali
  • Mike Amesbury
  • Apsana Begum
  • Richard Burgon
  • Barry Gardiner
  • Kate Hollern
  • Afzal Khan
  • Rebecca Long Bailey
  • Angela Rayner
  • Steve Reed
  • Lloyd Russell-Moyle
  • Barry Sheerman
  • Zarah Sultana

Judging by the swift and merciless action against Jeremy, Labour arguably have to consider suspending the 14 MPs named above – If you think that suspending that many MPs is impossible remember that Boris suspended 21 Tory MPs last year. Guido has asked a Labour spokesperson what action Labour will be taking – or indeed has already taken – against the accused…

Corbyn Suspended & Whip Removed

“In light of his comments made today and his failure to retract them subsequently, the Labour Party has suspended Jeremy Corbyn pending investigation. He has also had the whip removed from the Parliamentary Labour Party.”

Starmer didn’t have a great press conference. This stamps his authority on the party. People around Starmer believe defeating the left is a pre-requisite for electoral victory. It remains to be seen who wins the battle for the Labour Party…

Shadow Cabinet in Hiding

Guido notes that it’s been a few days since the party put anyone up for the breakfast round. No Shadow Cabinet figure has appeared on The Today program, BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, Kay Burley at Breakfast, Julia Hartley-Brewer Breakfast Show, Times Radio Breakfast Show, or Nick Ferrari at Breakfast since Angela Rayner’s broadcast round on Tuesday morning. One senior broadcast journalist gets in touch to suggest the Labour Party are trying to duck responsibility…

The media round-dodging comes as Keir Starmer has announced Labour will not vote down the 10pm hospitality curfew, despite mildly criticising the measure at PMQs. The Labour Leadership is desperate to not take any stances that they could be scrutinised over…

Labour Councillor Suspended Over Holocaust Conspiracy

Prominent Labour councillor and London Assembly candidate Preston Tabois has been suspended by the Labour Party over posts unearthed by Guido, showing the left-wing candidate endorsing a conspiracy theory that Jews murdered each other in the Holocaust in a masterplan to create the state of Israel. While he’s suspended he will be unable to run as a Labour candidate…

Facebook posts unearthed by Guido and put to Labour show the Haringey councillor having shared an article about a UKIP candidate claiming “Jews murdered each other in the Holocaust in masterplan to create State of Israel”, to which Tabois added “You’re not wrong brother P!”.

Other posts from Preston’s Facebook account include the councillor defending conspiracy theories in a discussion about Zionism, saying they “can be used as an educational tool to understand and relate to how governments are run & financed”, as well as describing Tesco as a “Zionist” shop.

A Labour Party spokesperson told Guido:

“The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and they are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”

Though the party is not officially confirming either way, Guido understands Tabois has been administratively suspended from the Labour party pending an investigation. Starmer’s record on responding to antisemitism remains a lot shinier than his predecessor’s – it really wasn’t that difficult to get to grips with…

Labour Apologises in Court to Smeared Panorama Journalists & Whistleblowers

The Labour Party civil war continues as the party agrees to pay “substantial damages” to seven whistleblowers over “defamatory and false allegations” made following a BBC Panorama investigation into Anti-semitism.

Corbynistas like Owen Jones called the investigation “a hatchet job”. Owen ranted that it was “one of the most tawdry pieces of journalism I have ever seen produced by a broadcaster claiming impartiality… a documentary which basically just presented old news stories set to a sinister soundtrack, with red-baiting McCarthyite talk of “lifelong Marxists” flooding the party added in for good measure.”

Not sure where this leaves the Carter-Ruck challenge to the Labour Party over the proffering of this apology financed by Unite on behalf of Corbyn, Formby* and Milne…

UPDATE:

An apology from the Labour Party to Kat Buckingham, Michael Creighton, Samuel Matthews, Dan Hogan, Louise Withers Green, Benjamin Westerman and Martha Robinson

The Labour Party has today issued an unreserved apology to the former members of staff who contributed to a BBC Panorama programme about antisemitism within the Labour Party in July 2019.

Before the broadcast of the programme, the Labour Party issued a press release that contained defamatory and false allegations about these Whistleblowers.

We acknowledge the many years of dedicated and committed service that the Whistleblowers have given to the Labour Party as members and as staff. We appreciate their valuable contribution at all levels of the Party.

We unreservedly withdraw all allegations of bad faith, malice and lying. We would like to apologise unreservedly for the distress, embarrassment and hurt caused by their publication.  We have agreed to pay them damages.

Under the leadership of Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner, we are committed to tackling antisemitism within the Labour Party. Antisemitism has been a stain on the Labour Party in recent years. It has caused unacceptable and unimaginable levels of grief and distress for many in the Jewish community, as well as members of staff.

If we are to restore the trust of the Jewish community, we must demonstrate a change of leadership. That means being open, transparent and respecting the right of whistleblowers. We are determined to deliver that change.

*Very gallant of Len McCluskey to use his member’s subs to defend the honour of the mother of his child.
