Boris Makes Good on G7 Commitment

Cast your mind back to June this year, when Boris spent most of the month out of the country travelling around Europe, there were mass fears about increases to the energy price cap and Keir Starmer was roundly failing to capitalise on Tory disunity. At the time Boris caused a row with Napoleon complex-sufferer Vladamir Putin, when joking with fellow G7 leaders about Putin’s propensity to pose topless for photographs:

Jackets on? Shall we take our clothes off? We all have to show that we’re tougher than Putin… show our pecs”

Putin refused to take the body blow lying down, hitting back by saying if Boris did the same it would be “a disgusting sight” and “western leaders should stop abusing alcohol and bad habits, do physical exercise and take part in sports”. Thanks to the Sun’s snaps of Boris’s Greek beach holiday, we can see once and for all how the two men compare…

Guido’s not sure there’s much in it frankly…

Team Gove Deny 30 Hour Flight Delay Hell

Holidaying politicians can’t catch a break at the moment: Boris is being attacked for his second holiday in a fortnight to his dad’s in Greece, Sir Keir’s finally out on the airwaves after two weeks in Mallorca, and Michael Gove can’t travel without mouthy lefties haranguing him at the airport. Voluble remainiac nutter Candida Jones has already garnered 17,000 likes on a photo tweeted at 5pm last night, claiming Michael Gove had been caught up in a Brexit-related “sh*tshow” over a 30-hour EasyJet delay, which she was apparently told was caused by “lack of staff due to the pandemic compounded, in the case of the UK, by #Brexit”. It’s remarkable she was given an excuse that coincides neatly with her worldview. At least there are no airport staff shortages in any other EU member states to undermine the claim…

Unfortunately for Candida, not only is her Brexit-hating worldview not backed up by facts, neither is her belief that Gove was caught up in the supposed “#BrexitChaos”. While she may have been delayed by 30 hours, according to a source close to Michael, he experienced an hour delay in landing at most after coming back from his holiday in Greece.

It’s not the first time this frothing-at-the-mouth left-wing activist has launched bile at a Tory politician during her holiday. The Guardian archives provide this bizarre piece from Candida in 2008, where for some reason Jones let George Osborne “ruin” her day at the beach in Corfu:

“a motor boat appeared… surely no one would drive a boat through crowded water and, anyway, where was it going? Couldn’t those on board see that there was nowhere to moor as the pier was packed with children playing? Several parents, in several languages, complained loudly that this was an inappropriate place to bring a motorboat. It carried on without any apology from those on board and the bathers made way – the diving games stopped and children were hurriedly helped down from the pier and sent to the beach to play.

I could tell immediately these people were English, by the way they were dressed and their seemingly superior manner. I felt embarrassed that a typically informal, relaxed and inclusive Greek afternoon was being so rudely interrupted by one small, well-turned-out, organised, English family.

I recognised George Osborne as he led the way. Shouts continued from the parents, which made the Osborne family hurry, but none of them looked back or exuded the air of bashful apology one would expect. Osborne, hearing the protests, simply said, addressing everyone, “It’s a pier, that’s what it’s for.” He said it loudly, angrily, without looking at any of those whose afternoon he had spoiled.”

Maybe Candida needs another holiday to calm down…

Blackford Changes Tune on Holidaying During Crisis

Those following Ian Blackford’s Twitter account over the past fortnight won’t have missed his recent holiday to the States. He began in Arizona on the 23rd, with a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon two days later. Monument Valley was on the agenda for the 27th, followed by Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah on the 30th. Utah got a second day’s exploration on August 1st, followed by Death Valley on the 2nd and Yosemite on the 3rd. Blackford finished up in San Francisco on the 6th. A lovely time enjoyed by all, not least Brits who avoided a whole two weeks of reduced preaching from the Celtic Crofter…

Imagine Guido’s surprise, therefore, when today’s National splash sees none other than Mr Blackford demanding Boris Johnson “comes out of hiding”, and accuses the PM of being “missing in action” during a cost of living crisis. One rule for a relaxed, tanned Blackford, another for everybody else…

“Every day people are waking up to warnings that the Tory-made cost-of-living crisis is spiralling out of control – with each report more worrying than the last. Yet the UK Prime Minister is missing in action.

“Boris Johnson might be on his way out – and rightly so – but for now he is still the Prime Minister, with duties to protect the people who live here. He must come out of hiding”

There’s another problem with Blackford’s demand other than the obviously hypocritical posturing: Boris’s holiday is already over – as one keen-eyed flyer proved via TikTok yesterday…

Presumably Keir Starmer would have been playing the same game had Boris not returned from holiday before him…

Corbyn Misses #NHScrisis After Taking Extended Holiday in Mexico

As the country went back to work this week, so did most of its politicians. It’s been a busy few days in Westminster, especially given the trouble with the NHS. There has been a full programme of government business – the PM has done several visits and clips including to a hospital today, ministers have been on trade missions and carrying out domestic visits, the Shadow Cabinet has been touring the TV studios. So where is Jeremy Corbyn?

On Christmas Day, 11 days ago, Jezza was photographed on the way to Mexico. Mexican academic Irma Sandoval has tweeted about meeting him in the country today, which means he has taken something of an extended holiday while everyone else is back in the office.

Explains why we haven’t heard anything from Corbyn on the NHS, which should be a major Labour attack line. Week off in lieu? Lazy socialists…
