Tommy Corbyn’s Glastonbury Confusion

Social media was dominated at the weekend with pro-Corbyn hashtags, as loyal supporters continue struggling to move on past the ‘denial’ stage of grieving. Tommy Corbyn got in on the action, quote tweeting a clip of the great leader’s infamous Glastonbury speech. According to Tommy, after the speech:

“one of the Glastonbury staff tapped me on the shoulder and said “you know he just got a bigger crowd than Rihanna””

Unfortunately for Tommy, Rihanna has never played Glastonbury. It seems young Tommy Corbyn might be wrongfacing his black female artists – perhaps with Beyoncé having performed at the stage in 2011 to a crowd of 175,000. Tommy, as the lady sang; “Ooh na na, what’s my name?” Beyoncé or Rihanna…

When BoJo Went to Glasto

Seventeen years before Jeremy Corbyn addressed the masses at Glastonbury, Boris Johnson delighted crowds with a brief performance of the Iliad, as well as a walkabout tour with Billy Bragg. These people who have taken their lives into their own hands, they have arrived here under their own steam, they have paid £87, they have pitched their own tent! Isn’t that a metaphor for what conservatism is?”

Boris there, being party political Glasto on Friday 23rd June, 2000. Before it was cool…

Glaston-free: Labour’s Headline Acts Showered with Freebie Tickets

Turns out Jezza and Tom Watson were showered with freebie Glasto tickets. Corbyn – who spoke on the main stage at the event – received two free tickets from the organisers at a total value £476 via “a member of his family“. Watson had it even better, wangling a total of five free tickets paid for by Live Nation, an American events firm based in Beverly Hills. Watson’s fistful of tickets came to a total value of a whopping £2,445. Sheffield Heeley Labour MP Louise Haigh also had two free tickets, paid for by Michael Dugher’s lobbying group UK Music (total value £900). John McDonnell, who branded the Grenfell fire “murder” at the festival, didn’t declare any Glasto freebies. While their middle class fans paid thousands, Labour’s headline acts went Glaston-free…
