Lansman’s Faction Defeated in Momentum Elections

The factional battle between Momentum Renewal and the ‘democratising’, pro-open primary slate calling itself Forward Momentum was decisively won last night by the anti-Lansman faction. Lansman, perhaps wisely, decided against running himself in the election. Forward Momentum candidates won all 20 directly elected places on the committee, with four places left to ‘Public Office Holders’. Momentum ‘Renewal’, which of course was the faction who was already running Momentum, lost badly…

Members seem to have been less than impressed with Momentum’s less than democratic Leadership endorsement process. Now the far left faction within the far left faction of the left wing party has taken control of that faction’s National Coordinating Group. Got it?

Momentum Election Crashes

Promising all the excitement of a local parish council by-election, the race for Momentum’s internal NEC is on, with supporters receiving emails telling them voting has opened with a link to vote. Members are voicing their frustrations however as the webpage – vote.peoplesmomentum.com – is “Offline for maintenance”. And has been for over 12 hours

Now we may have to wait even longer to find out whether Momentum loyalists will prove victorious; or the new faction “Forward Momentum“; or the faction within that new faction “Momentum Internationalists“; or the new even harder-left faction backed by Labour MPs called “Momentum Renewal“. Guido can’t wait to see who gets the honour of steering the sinking ship into the seabed of irrelevance…

New Faction Within the Forward Momentum Faction

Earlier this month, Guido brought you the news of a new faction opening up with Momentum – ‘Forward Momentum’ – aiming to “Refound and democratise” the movement. It was a good old Labour factional split romp…

Yesterday the black hole of left-wing politics collapsed in on itself even further, when a group within Forward Momentum launched the new faction ‘Momentum Internationalists, focusing on “democracy, class struggle and internationalism“. According to Momentum Internationalists, they will work with and within Forward Momentum, not intending to put up a slate of candidates for Momentum’s forthcoming NEC election. The countdown begins now for a faction to open up within Momentum Internationalists…

‘Forward Momentum’ Aiming for Factional Success

Guido highlighted Momentum’s split a few weeks ago, with the new factional group ‘Forward Momentum‘ hoping to “refound” and “democratise” its parent group. Since their launch they have clarified that Forward Momentum does not intend to be a long-term endeavour, operating merely as a “movement within a movement” within the Labour Party

Documents sent out last night claim 1,600 left-wingers have signed up to get involved in the fortnight since their launch; however they set out a need to triple that figure in the next eight weeks if their slate is to “win” the upcoming Momentum National Coordinating Group election. A separate document makes clear the group is not yet sure of what its election platform will be…

Their takeover plans are clearly ambitious to even the most utopian of socialist, so the movement has put in place a ‘backstop’ in case they fail to win, involving the use of Momentum’s petitioning process to put some key demands to a vote of all the members”. As per usual, rejection at the ballot box will do nothing to deter their zeal…

Momentum Splits, Splinter Group Calls for Unity

Immediately after the election of Labour’s new leader, Momentum immediately rolled up their sleeves, got straight to business and took the fight to Keir Starmer, tweeting “In this new era Momentum will play a new role. We’ll hold Keir to account and make sure he keeps his promises”. The Conservative Research Department can step down, Momentum have got this…

Saying the lefts feels “despondent and demoralised” after losing the general and Labour leadership elections, today the almost inevitable happened and a Momentum splinter group has launched, calling themselves “Forward Momentum” with the aim of “refounding”, “democratising” and organising a “united response to the [Coronavirus] crisis”. Nothing helps organise a united response more than splitting your movement…

Forward Momentum has called for more of the national body’s resources to be made available for political education – which, given the new organisers describe the current government as “extreme right-wing”, sounds like they’re in desperate need of. They’re complaining that Lansman’s Momentum is a too London-centric clique. It’s like the People’s Front of Judea complaining the Judean People’s Front isn’t people-oriented enough…
