Levelling Up Civil Servants Take the Biscuit

A Whitehall co-conspirator sent Guido these images from inside the Department for Levelling Up this morning. So far, the Public and Commercial Services union have leafletted three floors of the department, though it’s not clear whether they’ve also struck the Home Office yet. This isn’t the first time PCS have done this in recent months. Must be struggling to bring in the dough. That’s the way the cookie crumbles…

Of course there’s nothing stopping union members campaigning in their place of work. Good to know at least someone is in the office today, though…

Union’s Civil Service Recruitment Drive

Civil Servants entering 2 Marsham Street, the building that houses the Home Office and DLUHC, were met with a barrage of union campaign literature this morning.

The Public and Commercial Services Union is clearly on the lookout for new members, encouraging people to “join today, right now”. More than a hint of desperation there…

The literature also advertises the opportunity to join the PCS’ ballots for a national strike.

With the union calling for pay rises above inflation and a £15 minimum Living Wage, Guido would urge the blob’s union comrades to exercise restraint and look forward to their fabulous, index-linked, public service pensions.

Truss Gives Union Policy Back to Cabinet Office, ‘Brexit Opportunities’ Moves to BEIS

Liz Truss has just published a written statement on the Machinery of Government, which sets out a key reversal to Boris’s last reshuffle. When Gove was moved from the Cabinet Office to Levelling Up he took two key planks of his old department’s remit with him: the Union, and elections. Truss’s statement today announces that Union policy is moving back into the Cabinet Office, under the responsibility of Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Nadhim Zahawi. It appears elections policy is staying with DLuHC…

This will allow the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster to lead the UK Government’s engagement with the Devolved Administrations and drive forward cross-Government efforts to deliver tangible improvements for people across the UK, working closely with the Territorial Offices.

The written statement also confirms that Jacob Rees-Mogg’s old Brexit Opportunities portfolio is following him over to BEIS, bringing together “work to tackle EU red tape, seize post-Brexit opportunities and efforts to ensure the regulatory and business environment enables the UK to attract investment and boost growth.” Will the reshuffle never end?

Gove’s Department Levels Up Union and Woke Credentials

Guido learns the newly-created Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has undergone a rebrand over the last few days, with it being announced last night that as well as a new name, they now have a new colour – “union blue”. The deliberately named digital garb “has been selected as DLUHC’s new primary corporate colour” and will be the colour they use in their “departmental logo and other official branded materials.” Yes, the FoI’s been sent…

While Tories may be delighted by the new Union-enforcing branding, they’ll be less pleased at the new mandarin edict that pronouns in email signatures are now mandatory.

Guido presumes Gove is busy picking his own pronouns as we type…
