Mad Mullah Gets More Than Frontline Soldier

Here is another evidence-based chart you won’t see elsewhere; it shows how much taxpayers are forced to give to Anjem Choudary – the extremist cleric who wants to lead a protest march through Wootton Bassett.  He claims £25,740 in benefits to subsidise his hate preaching.  Guido questions how he can be seeking work when he spends all his time rabble rousing in broadcast studios and on demonstrations.  In contrast a frontline soldier, fighting Choudary’s taliban allies in Afghanistan, takes home £17,004 for risking his life.  If that private is killed in combat, his widow and children would have to live on a pension less than Choudary gets.

Why are British taxpayers paying their enemies more than their soldiers?  Is Choudary really actively seeking work?  The evidence suggests he has other priorities – so stop his benefits…

Blog on the Move

The overnight DNS server shift has not yet completed. Some ISPs will lag behind others but it will propagate across the entire world wide web eventually. It is Sunday, the blog is closed until Monday. There are clear blue skies over Wexford this morning, suspect it may be the same where you are too. Switch off the laptop and get out into the sunshine…

How CNN Reported Gordon’s Obama Meeting

The coverage of Brown’s trip on American broadcast networks – what little coverage there was – was humiliatingly bad for Gordon. This excerpt gives you an idea. This broadcaster used words like:

Wounded at home … wanted a news conference… got a low key meeting … didn’t seem to mind being the American President’s poodle …. Brown is desperate … the President pointedly didn’t make any promises about a global new deal…

This was on left-leaning CNN, Fox News basically ignored Brown. That went well didn’t it?

Geert Out With Your Principles

The purpose of a political party is to gain power. The hunger of the Cameroons for power is palpable, nothing will be allowed to stand in the way of that objective. Principles will be dispensed with if the polling demands it. When the rank and file object on ConservativeHome they are disparaged by the Cameroons in the same terms as the mid-nineties Blairites disparaged the Labour left.

Political professionals have little time for activist true believers and their pesky principles. Freedom of speech is one of those fundamental principles in a free democracy. It requires that you especially defend the rights of those with whom you disagree. Guido has gone to the trouble of watching the Fitna video, it contains no call to violence, in fact it condemns violence.

In the past and at great cost diplomatically, a Conservative government defended Salman Rushdie’s freedom of speech. It is therefore profoundly disappointing that the Tories have chosen to be officially agnostic about Geert Wilders. The decontamination strategy has turned into moral cowardice.

Go On Dave, Give the Hugh Grant Speech

So the Americans arranged for the torture of a British resident and held him in Guantánamo Bay without charge, but all this must remain secret because the Yanks have threatened to stop sharing intelligence with Britain. That would directly threaten Britain’s national security, David Miliband has told a judge. So that is it as far as this government is concerned.

David Davis is demanding a Commons statement from the government on the ruling, calling it “a matter of utmost national importance”. Nothing however from Dave, so far, on the subject. When the above scene from Love Actually played in cinemas, the audiences spontaneously applauded and cheered. That apolitical audiences at a romantic comedy respond like that tells us something profound, Britons know in their hearts, across the political spectrum, that successive governments have been too subservient to U.S. interests. Humiliatingly subservient.

Guido is pro-American, don’t misunderstand. There is no doubt that Anglo-American friendship has served the world well for a century. Friendship does not require subservience. Friends speak frankly, friends respect each other for telling the truth to their face. Go on Dave, give the Hugh Grant speech. It would be great for Britain.

Today is a Dark Day in History

403 years ago on this day in 1606, Guido Fawkes, following months of torture was convicted of treason for his part in the ”Gunpowder Plot” against an oppressive political class and the tyrant King James I, and executed. Now, some four centuries later, it is Guido’s turn to torture politicians…

Hutton Fears Pesky Teenagers

John Hutton is visiting a Sixth Form College in his constituency today. He has asked that for a planned question and answer session with some A Level students the questions be submitted beforehand. Obviously even though they’re his constituents one of them could be a bit of a Paxman. Dangerous…

Polish Politician Provides Police Promise

Daniel Kawczynski, has replied (with a little poking) to Guido’s question; Would you be willing to hand over another constituent’s letter in similar circumstances?

In future I will refuse to hand over any document to Police until they have showed me a Court Order from a Magistrate instructing me to do so.

Obama to Drop Blackberry

Microsoft have been lobbying hard for an American solution to the Commander in Chief’s Blackberry addiction. Security issues have been very much to the fore (Blackberries are made by RIM of Canada). Data security being what it is only the best will do for the President.

Headbangers Explode Over Return of “Jurassic Clarke”

This didn’t take long – the Bruges Group‘s Barry Legg says;

“This effectively means the end of David Cameron’s promise to hold a referendum on the EU Constitution… it is now clear that Mr Cameron does not have the will to carry the necessary legislation … if the Conservative Party were elected to office. Mr Clarke and his supporters within the Conservative Party have been given carte blanch to oppose the policy. The so-called ‘big beast’ has trampled all over Mr Cameron as the price of his return to the Conservative front bench.”

The press release is a bit of a non-sequitur, since it is Clarke who has to change policy, or at least not disavow the settled Tory policy. Guido suspects that Clarke will try to restrain himself until the General Election. In government however…

UPDATE : In his acceptance statement Ken does indeed bend the knee to Dave on Europe: “Some may raise questions about my views on Europe. They are well-known. But I accept that the Party has come to a settled view on European matters, and I will not oppose the direction David will set on European policies in the future.”

IDF Video : Gaza Terrorists Launch Mortar Attacks from School

The deaths of women and children taking shelter in a UN school are a tragedy. The IDF do not target indiscriminately, whereas the terrorists who fire unguided rockets into Israel do not care who they kill. Nor do they hesitate to use schools and hospitals for military purposes.
