Labour Ban on North Sea Oil “Polls Well”, Will Be Bad for Britain

Andrew Austin, CEO Kistos Energy, told Times Radio that a Labour government ban on all new North Sea oil and gas would not be good for the British economy or security…

“I think he is doing it to appeal to voters and probably to a younger voter audience…this obviously polls extremely well amongst them. But I think it’s rather short-sighted, even the Unite unions and the GMB unions have come out over the last 48 hours both saying that they think this is a bad idea for jobs, and also for security of supply in the UK. All we’re going to do is end up importing hydrocarbons from other countries with less rigorous standards with higher carbon footprints for the transportation of those hydrocarbons. This is not good for balance of payments. This is not good for the basic British economy and our own security, both the supply, but also how it affects the wider economy.”
