Nearly 17,000 Complaints Over Ed Balls Interviewing His Wife

Ofcom has received 16,812 complaints for the Good Morning Britain show aired August 5th which saw presenter Ed Balls giving his wife Yvette Cooper an easy ride, as well as a controversial interview with Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana. That’s nearly double last year’s most complained about show, which saw over 8,800 complaints for Dan Wootton’s GB News interview with Laurence Fox…

Like Guido, viewers were more than a little shocked to see the husband and wife exchange that didn’t exactly see Balls’ doing his usual “over the top” bit to the home secretary, let alone any hard-hitting questions. Ofcom are usually happy to wrap GB News and other right-leaning outlets on the knuckles. Will they do the same over Mr. and Mrs. Cooper?

1.6 Million Unemployed Migrants Costing Taxpayer £8.5 Billion A Year

Out-of-work migrants are costing the taxpayer an eye-watering £8.5 billion a year, according to a new report from the Centre for Migration Control. This comes as ONS figures reveal a record 1,689,000 non-UK nationals are either out of work or simply not bothering to look for a job. And that excludes students and asylum seekers…

Meanwhile, the Institute for Fiscal Studies has blasted the Home Office for repeatedly overspending on asylum support, exceeding the budget by a whopping £7.6 billion over the last three years. Illegal channel migrant crossings continue to surge as well, with over 20,000 migrants crossing in 2024 so far. This expensive issue will leave Labour in choppy waters…

Labour Brings Back Mass ‘Non-Crime Hate Incident’ Recording

Labour is continuing its clamp down on free speech. Yvette Cooper has reversed the Tories’ decision last year to stop police recording so many “non-crime hate incidents” as it was a waste of police time. Under the Tories police were restricted to recording incidents which posed a real risk of escalating into “significant” harm…

Labour proudly declares today that “Home Office has committed to reverse the decision of the previous government to downgrade the monitoring of anti-Semitic and Islamophobic hate, at a time when rates of those incidents have increased.” Police will now be told to record the “non-crime” incidents, which is apparently needed to “monitor tensions.” It’s OK, though: Labour says it is “balancing” the plans with the right to free speech. How long will it be before Labour re-commits to locking up those who go about “misgendering” people…

Triumph Against ‘Throughtcrime’ as Christian Arrested for Silent Prayer Wins Payout

In a victory against the grim spectre of UK censorship, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, a Christian volunteer who faced two unjust arrests for silently praying outside an abortion clinic, has received a £13,000 settlement from West Midlands Police. This came after issuing two claims against the arrests with support from ADF UK. Though she’s been vindicated for her ‘thoughtcrime’, Labour’s push against free speech to protect the snowflakes is only beginning…

Ministers are now reviewing the initial guidance designed to protect “silent prayer”, having already axed the Free Speech Act designed to support debate in universities. Meanwhile, Yvette Cooper’s proposed Misogyny Extremism Law raises fears of further censorship and threats to free speech. A reminder that violence and misogyny against women are already criminal offences, and definitions of misogyny can vary widely. Labour should focus on addressing actual crimes rather than filling prisons with individuals convicted of so-called hate crimes…

Labour Border Command Reaches 40 Days Without a Commander

It’s now 40 days since Yvette Cooper announced the launch of Labour’s ‘new Border Security Command’ which was touted during the election as Starmer’s key to ‘smashing the gangs’ and solving small boat crossings. Labour says the entire project relies on having an “exceptional leader” to do all the work:

“Reporting directly to the Home Secretary, the Border Security Commander will provide strategic direction to work across agencies, drawing together the work of the National Crime Agency (NCA), intelligence agencies, police, Immigration Enforcement and Border Force, to better protect our borders and go after the smuggling gangs facilitating small boat crossings.”

The only problem with the commander is – there still isn’t one. After former terror cop Neil Basu snubbed Starmer by refusing the position the government has failed to produce a plan B. The ‘command’ is so far exactly the same as the one set up by the Tories, with no additional officials. Labour has had to externally open up applications for the position as boat crossings tick up to their highest levels under the new government. Good luck finding anyone willing to take that job…

Labour Benefit as Migrant Numbers Drop By A Third Due to Tory Visa Policy

Numbers of migrants applying for British visas, along with their families, have plummeted by over a third compared to last year, all thanks to the Tories cracking down on social care workers and students bringing relations over. In July last year, 143,000 hopefuls applied to live in the UK as skilled workers, but this July, that number has nosedived to 93,000. Not being able to bring the rest of  family along to the UK has put many off from even bothering to apply. Starmer should be grateful to the Tories for this one…

The head of the Migration Advisory Committee has forecasted a drop in net migration by 200,000 this year due to these measures. Yet, Yvette Cooper has already taken the axe to the Tory proposal to hike the income threshold for bringing a foreign partner to the UK from £18,600 to £29,000—a policy that could have curbed the numbers even more so. ‘The plan was working’…
