Having spent the day parading around the media campaigning for Labour, long-time lefty Steve Coogan took to Channel 4 last night, saying if, as a celebrity, he can “say anything that can help influence the election, you’re honour-bound to do that”.
Labour may be worrying he influenced the election in completely the wrong way, however, after coming out with classic statements like Brexiteers being “ill-informed and ignorant”, and the Tories rely on underfunding the education system as they need stupid people to boost their voter numbers. Exactly the finely-crafted messaging Labour were hoping to push the night before they attempt to cling on to their Brexit-voting heartlands…
Corbynista comedian Steve Coogan today marched on Downing Street to deliver a school funding petition from children organised by the Save Our Schools campaign. He was joined by lefty politicians including Green leader Caroline Lucas and new Labour MP for Manchester Gorton Afzal Khan. He also brought along an employee from his production company: Chloe Dymott is Head of Digital Media at Baby Cow Productions. Here’s the thing: BBC Worldwide last year became majority shareholders in Baby Cow Productions. The Alan Partridge star doesn’t hide his top-level Labour links: Tom Watson hired his daughter as a political aide, he featured in a 2015 Labour PPB and campaigned for Corbyn in May’s general election. But does the BBC know its company is now being used as a left wing front?
Tom Watson has hired Steve Coogan’s 19 year-old daughter as his parliamentary aide. Clare Coogan Cole is Coogan’s daughter by his ex-girlfriend Anna Cole, who dumped him after he admitted cheating on her with model Nancy Sorrell and two other beauties. Coke ‘n hookers aficionado Coogan became close friends with fellow enemy-of-press-freedom Watson during their time campaigning for Hacked Off. He went on to star in several high profile Labour campaigns including Watson’s “Save the NHS“ tour. Generous of Watson to repay the favour with a paid job for Coogan’s daughter, who no doubt was hired on merit in an open, full and fair recruitment process. A taxpayer-funded favour for his multi-millionaire Murdophobe mate… up the workers!
Murdoch-hating coke and hookers aficionado Steve Coogan has an impressive record of slagging off Rupe while taking his money. Coogan has banged on about “Rupert Murdoch’s toxic legacy” and the “News International protection racket” for years, all while selling his shows Places of My Life and Mid Morning Matters to Sky for top whack. What do you know, Coogan has just agreed to trouser even more of the ‘Murdoch shilling’:
“Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are taking their fine dining, gentle bickering, ruminations on getting old and endless impersonations of Michael Caine to Sky TV. After two highly successful series of The Trip on BBC2, the third series will be broadcast on Sky Atlantic.”
Back in 2012, Guido bumped into Coogan at a Hacked Off rally and asked him if he thought the deals made him a massive hypocrite. He comically disagreed:
“I am aware of it but I see a flipside, I think it makes me even braver. It would be even more hypocritical if I took his money and didn’t criticise him. What I’m doing puts me in even more danger.”
