The message has penetrated to presenters, it was good to see the corporation learning from past mistakes this morning, as Adesara appeared on BBC Breakfast and was flagged as a “Labour activist” at the end of the interview by Naga Munchetty. Almost there – now the BBC just needs to make sure these biases are flagged at the outset of the interview before everyone tunes out…
Prior to the last-minute declaration by Munchetty, Dr Sonia’s appearance was shaping up to be a classic example of a biased ‘expert activist’ making claims from an anti-Tory point of view, rather than their area of expertise; that the PM is delaying the Covid inquiry to avoid it coming out before the next election – something the government strongly deny – and stems from her political views rather than her medical expertise. Munchetty clearly hesitated before reading the scripted warning – hopefully she’ll get more comfortable doing it from here on out…
The BBC has finally admitted its April “Has the Government Failed the NHS” Panorama programme did breach its own editorial standards. The morning after broadcast, Guido revealed the extent to which the medical professionals interviewed were thinly-veiled political activists. By the end of April, the Beeb admitted to Guido that the organisation consulted a communist union organiser to find interviewees when producing the programme. Now, three months and 800 complaints later, they have finally apologised…
The BBC admits failing to mention interviewee Sonia Adesara’s political involvement with the Labour Party and status as a former candidate breached its guidelines:
The ECU agreed that the nature and extent of Dr Adesara’s political affiliation was such that it might have been relevant to the audience’s evaluation of her contribution insofar as it was critical of the Government, and that it was a breach of the BBC’s editorial standards not to have given viewers appropriate information about it.
The organisation, however, refuses to apologise for not labelling other left-wing campaigning contributors accurately, including ‘Docs not Cops’ member Irial Eno, Labour member of 53 years John Ashton, or Corbyn-rallying Unison steward Libby Nolan. Yeah but no but yeah…

Last night John Ashton was once again wheeled out by BBC Panorama to attack the government, with the editors – who can’t not know – failing to tell viewers of his longstanding left-wing, anti-Government views and proud half-century of Labour Party membership. In reality, Sonia is Chair of the Young Fabians Health Network, has appeared in an attack video on Jeremy Corbyn’s Facebook account, her Twitter account is littered with pro-Labour anti-Lib Dem and anti-Tory comments. No one could have anticipated this from Sky…
UPDATE: Guido understands Sonia also ran for selection as Labour’s parliamentary candidate in Uxbridge and South Ruislip but was beaten by friend-of-the-site Ali Milani. To lose to him is quite a feat…
