Remainers Launch Tasteless ‘Deatherendum’ Site

Fanatical Remainers have launched a tasteless website predicting the result of a referendum vote today based on deaths of Leave voting older people. The counter predicts that over a million young people who have turned 18 since 2016 would vote remain, and says 800,000 leave voting older people have died. Their site assumes not one remain person has changed their mind…

This isn’t just a feature of the fringes of the FBPE movement. This is one of their mainstream arguments. Even today Polly Toynbee has been thoroughly ratio’d on Twitter for her crass suggestion that “the will of dead [is] ruling over the will of the young.”

Also this week, has-been singer and People’s Vote campaigner ‘Jamelia’ took to the airwaves to argue that there should be a maximum voting age, preventing older people for voting, because “I don’t think it’s fair that you have a vote when you’re not going to experience the consequences of that vote.” Presumably she thinks the same of the disabled and terminally ill..?

Toynbee: No More Referendums… Except This One

The Guardian’s second referendum supporting Polly Toynbee got into a sticky situation on Politics Live when Andrew Neil revealed her own words from just last year “never try another referendum.”

Her response? “Well, except possibly this one.”

Inspired.

Fraser Burns Polly

Zinger from Fraser Nelson as Polly Toynbee went after Toby Young’s record on free schools:

Polly: “He wanted to create a school for his kids.”

Fraser: “Yes, it’s better than sending them private like some columnists I could mention.”

Remember Polly sent two of her children private. Zing…

Multi-Millionairess Polly Toynbee Calls For Property Tax

Guido enjoyed listening to three home-owning multi-millionairess Polly Toynbee rail against inequality and demand a US-style property tax this morning. Six-figure salaried Polly also wants a new levy on “the wealth of the very old, very rich to pay for a care system”. Wealthy socialists are of course free to voluntarily pay more tax if they feel so strongly about it. Bad news for the kids’ inheritance if mum’s assets are whacked with new taxes, though at least she sent two of them to private school so they can still check their privilege. The Italian property transfer tax means selling her Umbria villa will have stung too…

Polly Toynbee’s Shameless Grammar Schools Front

toynbee

Polly Toynbee today attacks Theresa May’s grammar school plans, arguing that segregation by social class is “irrational” and claiming grammars add to “splits and divisions” in society. She has some front. Polly herself failed her 11-plus and attended the independent Badminton School. Earning £110,000-a-year at the Guardian meant she was able to send two of her children to private school as well. Today Toynbee writes that “inequality is monstrously unfair… it means birth is almost always social destiny”. Some children are evidently more equal than others. Is there a bigger hypocrite in the grammar schools debate?

Supercar Socialist: Polly Toynbee’s £135,000 Ferrari

Watch Polly Toynbee call a Ferrari a “misogynist motif of the patriarchal social order” and George Monbiot rev up a Land Rover as they ‘audition’ to be the new presenter on Top Gear:

Well at least Guido has a new stock image for Polly stories…

Polly’s “Precarious” Guardian Has £850 Million Cash Reserves

Polly Toynbee has a full page advert in today’s Guardian asking readers to “become a Founder member” for £540-a-year. In other words write them a cheque because the £1.60 they pay to read the paper isn’t enough to save it from its “precarious” position:

“The Guardian’s life has always been precarious because we don’t have an owner or a corporation propping us up. We don’t have a press baron or oligarch ordering us to take their political or commercial line. We swim along in a dangerous world of media sharks, our independence precious and unique.”

As Press Gazette points out, the “precarious” Guardian currently has cash reserves of £850 million since selling its stake in Autotrader last year. Cynical tax strategies have kept the Guardian afloat whilst simultaneously campaigning against tax avoidance. Amazingly £850 million has built an endowment that will allow the unpopular paper to lose money in perpetuity. All without paying any corporation or capital gains taxes for years…

Polly Toynbee Lifts TPA Research Uncredited in Guardian

An “insidious poison fed into the nation’s veins”. So said Polly Toynbee of the Taxpayers’ Alliance in 2009. Therefore it was a surprise to see North London’s finest quote research by the grass-roots tax justice campaigners in her latest rambling missive. Toynbee’s claims today about “paying the highest proportion of its income in taxes: 47%” is lifted directly from a TPA report. Unfortunately she appears to have forgotten to credit the source in the same way as she’s credited the lefty Centre for Cities, the lefty JRF, and uber-lefty Oxfam. Always happy to be of help, Polly…

Facts are Sacred: Guardian Grovel For Polly, Again

The Guardian have been forced into a humiliating climb down and apology to former Sun man Richard Caseby, yet again, after Polly went off on one about the new Director of Comms at DWP:

The following correction was published on 15 April 2014: A Comment article about the treatment of disabled people by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) stated: “Forget civil service factual information: Duncan Smith has just hired a Murdoch managing editor from the Sun and Sunday Times as DWP communications director. Perhaps he helps hone Duncan Smith’s terminological inexactitudes.” We are happy to accept that Richard Caseby, the strategic director of communications at the DWP, carries out his duties in a thoroughly honest, diligent and professional manner. He was not hired by Iain Duncan Smith, the secretary of state for work and pensions, but works as a civil servant. We apologise for any misunderstanding. In addition, the writer of the article said that “PIP replaces the disability living allowance” (DLA). To clarify: DLA is still available for children up to the age of 16.”

If you can’t trust the Guardian or the Mirror, who can you trust these days?

Polly Blames Headline Writer For Baby P Smear

Polly Toynbee is blaming her Guardian headline writer for her smear of the year contender this morning.

“many commenting here have not bothered to read my article carefully (or at all), and the headline (which I didn’t write, and which is more provocative than the print Guardian) I didn’t write.”

Of course that hasn’t stopped her from tweeting the very same headline. This excuse didn’t wash for Geoffery Levy. For some reason the same privilege wasn’t afforded to the Mail…

Guardian’s Bid for Smear of the Year

Polly Toynbee, or her Guardian sub, has found the culprit responsible for the deaths of young children at their hands of their parents: the Tories of course! Apparently Baby P and Hamzah Khan’s deaths can be blamed on “Tory vandalism”, Michael Gove to be specific. Just the one problem. Aside from Polly ignoring the role of you know, the parents, or even social workers, teachers and doctors, both Baby P and Hamzah Khan died under a Labour government. And this from a paper that moralises about rival’s ethics.

Polly’s Singapore Spin Unravels

Taking Polly Toynbee’s increasingly fact-free rants with a pinch of salt is generally good advice, but there is a difference between her standard spin and a complete falsehood. In a typical Gove-bashing piece for the Guardian today Polly asserts:

“Gove, calling for payment by results, cited Singapore’s high-achieving school system, “where expectations are higher”.

Joke Candidate: John O'Farrell Tipped to Fight Eastleigh

Polly Toynbee: “Workfare Really Works”

In February 1997 the “Commentator of the Year” was musing in the Indy:

Latest figures for Project Work, the Government’s pilot workfare scheme, suggest colossal fraud or deliberate idleness on a scale no one predicted.

Nearly a decade and half later and you have to pinch yourself while reading back Polly Toynbee’s article “The Tories were right: workfare really works”:

Since April, 6,800 people unemployed for over two years have been through schemes in Hull and the Medway.

Polly Toynbee Calls in the Doctor

Last week’s Private Eye called the  blog of one Dr Eoin Clarke “obscure” and noted “many of Clarke’s musings turned out to be idiotic,” before concluding:

“Not even Eoin Clarke’s would claim his writings are essential reading, but his blog appears to be one of the few places on the interweb to give Ed Miliband a sympathetic hearing – so perhaps that’s why he reads it.”

Well it looks like the good doctor has found another reader.[…] Read the rest
