Sturgeon Threatened EU Nationals in Scotland Would Lose Right to Stay

nicola

Nicola Sturgeon is coming down to London today, showing some admirable mental gymnastics as an independence campaigner arguing for sovereignty and self-government who wants to remain in a Union governed outside her country. One of the things the SNP are outraged about is the status of EU nationals (who the government has said “100%” will be allowed to stay). Yet back in 2014, Sturgeon herself threatened that EU migrants living in Scotland would lose the right to stay if an independent Scotland was kept out of the EU:

“There are 160,000 EU nationals from other states living in Scotland, including some in the Commonwealth Games city of Glasgow. “If Scotland was outside Europe, they would lose the right to stay here.”

The only leader who has explicitly threatened EU migrants’ right to stay is Nicola…

Sturgeon Blames Brexit for Bust

OILBEDAMNED

Nicola Sturgeon chose to jump on a Scottish government report yesterday which claimed the Scottish economy would be hit hardest by Brexit, in a bid to shift the blame for Holyrood’s nose-diving oil revenues caused by economic incompetence. Sturgeon claimed:

“The only way to protect Scotland’s economy – and the clear benefits which come from being part of the world’s biggest single market – is to work to ensure we protect our relationship with the EU.”

Sturgeon led the SNP’s moratorium on fracking just before and during the oil-price plummet, leading to the bottom falling out of the Scotland’s public finances when the more expensive North Sea oil was unable to compete. The official government revenue report today shows a drop of 97% in oil revenues, from £1.8 billion to just £60 million in a year. Nicola, calling for a second independence referendum to prevent a maximum loss of £3.7 billion a year to the public finances, already presides over a deficit of nearly £15 billion a year. What do you say, Merkel – fancy welcoming another Greece to the EU?

Electoral Commission on Jock-‘Copter Campaign

sturgeon+hendry

Above are images which, as the Getty captions say, show Nicola Sturgeon on May 2 last year in Portree and Inverness on her helicopter tour campaigning for local candidates. You can tell that she is because it clearly says behind her “Vote Drew Hendry”. People were excited to see her turn up in a helicopter and it pulled in large numbers for the candidate’s election rally. She’s definitely campaigning for the local candidate’s election…

CyberNats are tweeting that this is fine by the Electoral Commisssion. The SNP press office promised us a statement from the Electoral Commission confirming this was the case – so far nothing seen. Here is what we got from the Electoral Commission when we inquired about the SNP’s Jock-‘Copter campaign:

“If the travel promotes both the local candidate and national policies, then a portion of the cost of that bus should be allocated towards the candidate’s spending limit and a portion towards the party’s national spending limit.”

Bang to rights, these pictures don’t lie…

Sturgeon Ducks Chopper Question

Nicola Sturgeon faced a grilling from Kay Burley this afternoon following Guido’s revelations about the SNP’s helicopter spending during the general election. Sturgeon didn’t answer the key point that the chopper was used to campaign for local candidates…

SNP MP Swerves Questions About Own Party’s Spending

Pete Wishart is the SNP MP who wrote to the Met demanding a full investigation into Tory election fraud. Yet Pete had no answer when the Daily Politics asked him about Guido’s story on the Nats’ own spending:

Jo Coburn: “It’s been alleged that Nicola Sturgeon’s helicopter tour at the last election included some local campaigning. Are you confident that the cost of that helicopter was all properly declared?”

Wishart: “Listen, we want national leaders to go to constituencies…”

JoCo: “Yeah but that wasn’t my question. Are you confident it was properly declared?”

Wishart: “There’s always what about if-ery and all this sort of stuff…”

The Nats insist the helicopter was rightly declared as national spend, but the Electoral Commission say that if it was used for any local campaigning – as it was – the cost should be divvied up. The MP who called the cops on the Tories has no answer…

Farage and Sturgeon Set For Head-to-Head BBC Debate

Guido understands the BBC has invited Nicola Sturgeon and Nigel Farage to take part in a head-to-head referendum debate in Glasgow. The hour-long face-off is due to take place on May 26 on BBC1 at 8pm. Audience members will be under 30 and representative of the whole of the UK rather than just Scotland. So Nige won’t have to barricade himself in a pub this time…

When Vote Leave secured the designation Farage worried his telly time would be reduced. This is a chance for the UKIP leader to take part in a prime-time head-to-head debate on the BBC, one he will want to seize given his hugely effective performance against Clegg two years ago. He then has his ITV Q&A session on June 7 to follow. He will be box office…

UPDATE: UKIP sources say Farage is still “considering options” on the TV debates. The SNP stress “At the moment no invitations to any EU debates have been accepted”.

Sturgeon’s Tax Bung For Big Oil

OILBEDAMNED

The SNP have long tied their hopes to the price of oil and, now it’s under $30 a barrel, Sturgeon is pushing for big oil tax breaks. As tax policy is made in Westminster, Scottish Finance Minister John Swinney has scheduled an “urgent meeting” with Osborne. This is despite the Chancellor announcing £1.7 billion pounds worth of tax breaks for oil and gas last year

The SNP suspended new coal bed methane and fracking sites in Scotland last year, killing off a growing industry in its infancy. Now they want Osborne to pay big oil for their mistake. Tax breaks for big business while eternally delaying fracking decisions – why don’t the SNP just go and join the Tories?

Scottish Labour Clutserfcuk

genertaion

The launch of the Scottish Labour party conference is going well, then. They had to remove from YouTube within minutes this new PPB urging Scots to take a “fresh look” at the party after cocking up the spelling of the giant word in the middle of the screen. Leading to joyous Nats mocking them with the #genertaion hashtag…

Sturgeon Swerves Scandal Questions at Fiery FMQs

Nicola Sturgeon was caught in a Kezia Dugdale / Ruth Davidson pincer movement during a bruising First Minister’s Questions today. Guido’s highlights of the fiery exchanges over her scandal-hit former Business spokesman Michelle Thomson are well worth a watch:

For Fox Sake: Timeline of How SNP U-Turned on Hunting Vote

Nicola Sturgeon, February 8 2015:

“The SNP have a longstanding position of not voting on matters that purely affect England – such as foxhunting south of the border, for example – and we stand by that. Where any issue is genuinely “English-only”, with no impact on Scotland, the case for Evel can be made.”

SNP website, May 19 2015:

“The SNP has a long-standing position of not voting on matters that only affect England. The Hunting Act is one such matter that purely affects England and Wales, and so SNP MPs would not vote on this issue.”

And yet, just two months later…

Angus Robertson, July 13 2015:

“The Scottish National Party Westminster Group met this evening and decided to vote against the Tory Government’s attempt to relax the ban on fox hunting south of the border in Wednesday’s vote… it is right and proper that we assert the Scottish interest on fox hunting by voting with Labour against the Tories’ proposals to relax the ban – in the process, reminding an arrogant UK government of just how slender their majority is”

Well it put them off the scent…

CyberNae: Sturgeon Slams SNP Trolls

cybernae

Nicola Sturgeon has declared war on the online army of SNP supporting trolls who specialise in attacking and bullying anyone who opposes the Scottish Independence cause. Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail, Sturgeon distanced herself from her own army of racist and homophobic fanatical SNP supporters known as cybernats, declaring “the abuse must stop“.

Not only has Sturgeon disavowed her online attack dogs, she also warned that the SNP will take proactive steps to track down and discipline cybernats. She could start by sending some of her most fervent Cybernats to a charm school for a start…

Carmichael Confesses: I Did Leak Sturgeon Memo

Ousted ex-LibDem Scotland Secretary Alistair Carmichael has confessed it was him who leaked the infamous Nicola Sturgeon memo claiming she wanted the Tories to win the election.

The former Scottish Secretary admits all in a statement:

“I had not seen the document before it was published in the Daily Telegraph, however I was aware of its content and agreed that my special adviser should make it public.

I should not have agreed this. It was an error of judgement which I regret.

I accept full responsibility for the publication of the document.

I have written today to the First Minister and to the French Ambassador to apologise to them both.

Had I still been a Government Minister I would have considered this to be a matter that required my resignation.  I have therefore informed the Cabinet Secretary that I will decline my ministerial severance payment.”

Here is Carmichael denying it was him at the time, claiming “The first I heard of this was when I received a phone call from a journalist”:

Now we know he was telling a great big whopper.

Anagram of ‘Sturgeon and Miliband’ is ‘Subordinating Man, Led’

The Tories have missed a trick in the campaign posters.

There are some brilliant – and topical – anagrams of ‘STURGEON AND MILIBAND’.

Like ‘SUBORDINATING MAN, LED’.

Or ‘BUILDING A MONSTER’…

Ruthless Nicola’s Dollgate Denials

Shocking revelations in this morning’s Sun:

As with the furore over the French Consul’s embarrassing diplomatic report, the denial is less than convincing:

If as a child Sturgeon was prepared to hack the top off a Barbie doll, will she now use her power to do the same to Britain?

UPDATE: Another happy reader:

Despite her previous denial to the BBC, Sturgeon now openly admits to ruthlessly hacking the hair off a Sindy doll:

Nicola claims she has reformed:

Has she really?

#BBCDebate: Sturgeon Silences Miliband

Both the BBC and Sun ‘worms’ are putting Nicola Sturgeon ahead of Ed Miliband so far. Ed was left gurgling as Sturgeon told him “we need to replace the audience with something better”:

SNP & Labour: Or How I Stopped Quibbling and Learned to Love the Bomb

Labour have just about sorted out their message on Trident today, despite some confusion from Ed Balls. Meanwhile, the SNP are still toying with Miliband on the issue. “I can’t be clearer,” claims Nicola Sturgeon, while obfuscating on what the SNP will demand from Labour in return for a confidence and supply deal.[…] Read the rest
