Labour Vote Split in Bradford

Former Respect leader Salma Yaqoob is running as an independent against Labour’s Naz Shah in Bradford West (majority 11,420). In one sense Yaqoob is fighting a straightforward grudge match against Shah, who ousted Yaqoob’s former colleague George Galloway in 2015 (though Yaqoob denies it’s all about just getting Galloway’s own back for him). Salma’s candidacy has turned Bradford into an interesting three-way race…

Last week independent Khadim Hussain withdrew his candidacy to endorse Yaqoob, which shows she is making deals on the ground, and it is certain she will split Shah’s vote to some degree. Guido now hears that some former Labour activists have been attracted away from Shah by Yaqoob, who has also been positioning herself as a Corbynista of sorts and – having shared many an anti-war platform – is well-connected to Corbyn himself, who was once rumoured to be lining her up for a Labour seat. Tory George Grant is likely to pick up the modest UKIP vote and would of course benefit from a nationwide swing to the Tories (before Galloway the Tories were the second party in the constituency). Salma will damage Naz, but by how much?

Naz Shah Attends Event With Extremist-Linked Zionist-Haters

naz

Naz Shah’s rehabilitation following her anti-Semitism scandal had been going well. Her mea culpa seemed genuine, she won the support of the Jewish community and came across well on a Channel 5 documentary last week. So it’s a shame she decided to attend an event in parliament with Mend, as the Sun on Sunday reports. Mend is a very unsavoury group. They employ Azad Ali, a man who has written of his “love” for an al-Qaeda terrorist. They have defended Cage, the extremist group linked to Jihadi John. Their Twitter feed is awash with rants about the “Zionist Lobby”. Their ex-chief Sufyan Ismail – who sat next to Shah at the event – has tweeted about “Zionist funders” of MPs. Mend also promoted a ‘Fake News’ conspiracy theory article claiming the “Israel Lobby manufactured” Shah’s anti-Semitism scandal. Regrettable that Naz is once again legitimising such behaviour…

CPS Deciding on Charging Home Affairs Committee MP

Naz Shah Gaza Convoy

More trouble brewing for the Home Affairs select committee – Guido understands West Yorkshire Police have handed a file on anti-Semitism row Naz Shah to the Crown Prosecution Service. Shah was reinstated to the Labour Party despite being the subject of an ongoing police investigation over her tweets about “Jews“. Given she herself admitted they were racist it’s an interesting decision for the CPS. Though perhaps not the most interesting decision they’ll have to make about a Home Affairs select committee member…

Naz Shah Suspension Lifted

Labour have lifted the suspension of Naz Shah, the MP who Guido revealed had said Israeli Jews should face “transportation” out of the Middle East, compared Israelis to Hitler and claimed “the Jews are rallying”. Shah had been profusely apologetic all along and will apologise again for bringing the party into disrepute. Shami Chakrabarti’s recommendation of no lifetime ban for anti-Semitism is being enforced. Promotion to the Shadow Cabinet imminent?

Unite Motion Calls for “Loyal” Anti-Semites to Be Reinstated

UNITE FOR ANTI-SEMITES

Unite had up until now managed to stay out of the Labour anti-Semitism crisis. That’s not good enough for the London ITC branch of the Union, who will next Thursday be debating readmitting suspended members. Sources say the following is specifically about anti-Semitism. The branch’s motion claims:

There has been a wave of expulsions within the Labour Party, targeting socialist activists and supporters of Party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

These comrades are being expelled on the grounds that they do not support the aims and values of the Labour Party.

This branch believes the expelled comrades are loyal Labour Party members, who are being targeted on spurious grounds as part of a right-wing campaign to undermine Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

The lack of due process involved in these expulsions is outrageous, as is the failure to apply the principles of natural justice.

The shadowy and unaccountable Compliance Unit is acting in the manner of a vigilante as a law unto itself.

This branch demands that a stop be brought to these expulsions and that all those who do support the aims and values of the Labour Party be welcomed into the Party with open arms.

That the Compliance Unit be abolished. That, rather than expelling socialist activists, Labour focus its attention on uniting together around a socialist programme in order to defend Corbyn, kick out the Tories, and end austerity.

Loyal Labour party members who believe Zionists colluded with the Nazis, Israelis should be “relocated“, and who call on their comrades to address the Jewish question. All comrades targeted on spurious grounds, apparently…

Naz Shah Resigns From Home Affairs Select Committee

She says she has decided to step down from the HAC due to hold an inquiry into anti-Semitism. Shame, she might have learned something…

The inquiry is calling for Jezza and Ken to give evidence. What could go wrong…
