Natalie Bennett’s Green Screen Speech

What better way for the Greens to underscore their credibility as an emerging political force, than to have their leader give her conference speech in front of a green screen today. They were practically begging us to do this…

Natalie Bennett on the Surge

Natalie Bennett tells the Green Party conference….

“The #GreenSurge is much, much more than a hashtag.”

Greens Slump to Third in Natalie Bennett’s Own Ward

Not the sort of news you want on the eve of your spring conference. In the St Pancras and Somers Town council by-election last night – the ward in Natalie Bennett’s target constituency in which she lives – the Green Party fell from second place to third, behind Labour and the Tories. Bennett’s local Greens picked up just 10% of the vote, suggesting the party is some way away from making an impact there ahead of May. Caroline Lucas’ Brighton seat is increasingly looking like the only place the Greens have a chance…

Natalie Bennett Apologises to Green Party Members

Fair play to Natalie Bennett, who has refreshingly held her hands up and admitted she had a ‘mare on LBC earlier. It was the car crash to end all car crashes, but good for her for being honest.

As interviews go, it doesn’t get much worse than this from the Green leader with Nick Ferrari this morning. Not the ideal thing to happen on the day you’re launching your election campaign…

Broke Greens Beg For Taxpayer Cash

donations-q4-2014

Despite their relative popularity in the polls, the Greens raised just £248,520 last quarter. Natalie Bennett is out with her begging bowl this afternoon demanding the taxpayer foot the bill for her party’s inability to raise funds:

“For too long now the issue of party funding has been kicked into the long grass by the establishment parties at Westminster. It is abundantly clear that urgent reform is required to restore confidence in our scandal-ridden funding system. To cut the rot of vested interests from our politics we should move towards a system of state funding for political parties.”

For all that is wrong with the current system, it’s better than party politics being paid for at the taxpayer’s expense. C’mon Vivienne Westwood, get your chequebook out…

Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett Stoner Shocker! Hesitates Before Admitting Dope Smoking

Green leader Natalie Bennett hesitated just a little too long under the forensic questioning of LBC’s Duncan Barkes this lunchtime:

DB: “Are you a drug user?”

NB: “Um, er, I… have a glass of wine most evenings…”

Natalie revealed she used to smoke dope but insisted she doesn’t “dabble” any more. Could have fooled anyone who has read her manifesto…

GUY NEWS: Eco-Chicken Ruffles Feathers at Green Presser

Natalie Bennett welcomed a very special supporter to her press conference this morning: the free range, eco-chicken Guido Squawks! Why did Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg cross the road? To avoid debating the Greens…

BREAKING:  Greens Say Party Surpasses LibDems in Members

green-surge-1

Combined UK Green Parties’ membership passed that of the Liberal Democrats overnight according to Green HQ. The Greens are now claiming to have 44,713 members in England, Wales and Scotland whilst adding new members at a rate of 2,000 a day. Given they are standing candidates in 75% of seats, is this a green version of Cleggmania or something real? “The politics of the future does not have to look like the politics of the past” says the Green Party’s leader Natalie Bennett…

72% Say Let Greens in Leaders Debate

How much is Dave’s “chicken” debate demand to let the Greens take part hurting him with voters? A YouGov/Sun poll today finds 7 in 10 agree with the PM that Natalie Bennett should be allowed in. Meanwhile, overnight:

Guido understands as of yesterday UKIP’s memberships stands at 41,943, but the Greens have now overtaken that. Over to the broadcasters…

Green Leader: Being on Benefits Worse Than Poverty in India

If the Greens are going to be the UKIP of the left in 2015 they can do without their own fruitcakes and loonies getting headlines for the wrong reasons. Speaking to the Economist, Green leader Natalie Bennett argued that being on benefits in the UK is worse than being one of India’s 179 million people living below the poverty line:

“The world is sodden with stuff, it cannot have more stuff,” said Ms Bennett. Yet [the Greens] do not appear to have considered what that would mean for billions of the world’s poorest people, almost none of whom live in Britain. When Bagehot suggested to her that there was a problem with this, Ms Bennett said he was worrying too much: to be poor in India wasn’t so bad as to be on benefits in Britain, she suggested, “because at least everyone else there is poor too”.

They would rather the poor were poorer, provided the rich were less rich…

YouGov/Sun Poll Tracker: Greens in Fourth Again

The YouGov website does not include the Green Party in their voting intentions graphs, so Guido has decided to give them their deserved billing. Once again the Greens are in fourth today, knocking the LibDems down into fifth. As you can see above this is starting to look like a trend.[…] Read the rest

GREEN SURGE: LibDems Slump to Fifth Place

Two polls in two consecutive days now have the Greens ahead of the LibDems, with YouGov now putting Clegg in fifth place. Natalie Bennett’s party meanwhile rise from 7% to 8% this morning. The Staggers ask why the LibDems aren’t panicking, though Labour should also be watching the Green Surge with concern.[…] Read the rest
