The nurse who caused a stir by claiming “if you have voted Conservative, you do not deserve to be resuscitated” has been removed from the register of the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). Miranda Hughes made the claim on Channel 5 back in October, and the NMC has now ruled that her fitness to practise was “impaired” by this misconduct. Guido isn’t sure that the expression of an opinion, albeit unsavoury, could impact someone’s fitness to act as a medical professional…
The NMC’s decision also cited social media posts where Miranda committed the egregious crime of calling Tories evil and saying – brace yourself – “f*ck you” to Boris Johnson. The NMC claims the ruling will help maintain “public confidence in the profession and upholding standards”… even though Miranda hasn’t worked as a nurse since the incident in October. Striking off qualified professionals is just what the NHS needs as it deals with chronic staff shortages and record waiting lists…

Speaking to the Telegraph, Hughes revealed she’d violated her company’s “media policy” and is now being shown the door. Apparently wishing death upon millions of people ran contrary to her employer’s views. Who knew? Although she still blames all this on the Twitterati…

The reason I went on the programme was that you cannot care for your patients, it’s impossible. Because I care too much and even Jeremy Vine said to me working in the NHS broke you […] I lost my temper and I said something inappropriate. Now I am going to lose my job because the Twitterati have gone to town.
Before her star-making appearance on Channel 5 this week, Hughes worked in private healthcare, although she hasn’t revealed the name of her (now ex) employer. She might not have as much free time going forward as she thought, though. The Nursing and Midwifery Council say they may launch a full investigation. This seems an over-reaction, an explanatory apology should be enough…
Last night Jeremy Vine had a well balanced show on Channel 5 “Britain on the Brink” which Guido missed. Just as well for his blood pressure given the above highlight. It appears the caring left have moved on from never kissing Tories to watching them die in front of them.
Miranda Hughes describes herself as a “European, anti-Tory nurse. Mum. Cat appreciator. Amdram queen. Repeat dieter and food lover”. The nurse seems not only to be an expert on the appropriate clinical treatment of Tories, on Question Time she revealed her expertise on post-Brexit global perceptions of Britain.
