Labour Misses Gender Pay Gap Reporting Deadline, Despite 6 Month Extension

Despite attacking the government for, quite reasonably in the circumstances, pushing back the due date of companies’ gender pay gap reports following the pandemic, Labour have somehow managed to miss the deadline for their own review – even after benefitting from a whole six month delay. A quick browse of the gender pay gap service website reveals the report was required by the October 5; apparently they still haven’t gotten round to it…

Guido reminds co-conspirators what then-Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary Marsha de Cordova said when the delay was announced back in February:

It is unacceptable that the Government will not reinstate gender pay gap reporting sooner. All the evidence shows that the pandemic is having awful consequences for women’s labour market representation. Now is the time to be dialling up measures to protect against discrimination and unequal pay, not delaying them.”

To be fair to Marsha, it’s no longer her brief. Perhaps the pay gap just isn’t as important to Anneliese Dodds…

Starmer Loses Third Shadow Minister in a Fortnight

Major reshuffle speculation this morning, after Sir Keir lost his third shadow minister in 15 days. Shadow women’s minister Charlotte Nichols has stepped back from Starmer’s top team on a temporary for “personal reasons”, according to The Guardian. Starmer’s shedding spokespeople faster than popularity…

While it’s denied the move has any connection to political disputes or disagreements, it inconveniently came on the same day as he lost his shadow secretary for women and equalities, Marsha de Cordova – a move that seemingly was brought on by a political row. On the 30th Sir Keir also lost his shadow environment secretary Luke Pollard who stepped back to focus on his constituency after last month’s Plymouth shooting. Perhaps it’s not just Boris in need of a reshuffle…

Starmer’s Shadow Women and Equalities Minister Resigns

Starmer’s Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary has resigned, with no words on her reasoning. The move comes amid a very noisy row within Labour over trans rights, sparked by MP Rosie Duffield.

It also follows de Cordova being accused of snubbing an event hosted by the Labour LGBT+ group in conjunction with Stonewall. The move made her the first shadow equalities secretary not to attend the event since it started more than a decade ago. The Times reported that Starmer’s office had asked her to make attending the event a priority…

Marsha de Cordova MP said:

“It has been an immense privilege to serve as the Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary for the past 17 months. It therefore comes with much sadness that I am resigning with immediate effect. Having only been elected in 2017 for the historically marginal constituency of Battersea, I would like to focus more of my time and efforts on the people of Battersea. I will continue to support Keir Starmer from the backbenches.”

Keir Starmer MP said:

“I would like to thank Marsha de Cordova for her service and in particular her work highlighting the disproportionate impact the pandemic has had on Black, Asian, minority ethnic and disabled people. Marsha has also laid the foundations for a new Race Equality Act that Labour would introduce to tackle the structural inequalities which have existed in our society for too long.”

The move follows Starmer also losing his shadow environment secretary – albeit temporarily – as Luke Pollard stepped back to focus on his constituency after last month’s shooting…

Sam Coates’ Labour Mixup

Sky’s Sam Coates made an embarrassing error this morning in Battersea, mistaking local MP and shadow minister Marsha de Cordova for Dawn Butler. Awkward.

It’s not the first time journalists have mixed up Labour MPs. Readers may remember last year the i made a similar error

Labour Shadow Minister Likes Tweet Calling Army ‘Violent Fascists’

Yesterday Labour MP and Shadow Disabilities Minister Marsha de Cordova liked a tweet from a Corbynista councillor in Wandsworth branding the whole army as “Violent Fascists” in response to a handful of paratroopers firing paintballs at a picture of Jeremy Corbyn. It’s still up on her feed

If she thinks the army are ‘violent fascists” Guido would hate to hear what she thinks of the death cults they are fighting…
