Ferrier Loses Commons Suspension Appeal, Paving Way for By-Election

Disgraced Ex-SNP Margaret Ferrier has lost the appeal against her 30-day Commons Suspension. In a report today, published by Parliament’s Independent Expert Panel, Ferrier’s sanction was upheld, and her appeal dismissed “at the first stage”. The Panel’s Chair, Sir Stephen Irwin, also criticised the MP for failing to provide a timeline of events to both the Standards Commissioner and the Panel on appeal. Stephen Irwin wrote:

“The sub-panel dismissed Ms Ferrier’s appeal at the first stage of appeal… none of the grounds had substance and the sanction imposed was neither unreasonable nor disproportionate… The Committee’s recommended sanction is upheld.”

If the Commons approves the sanction, Ferrier will face a recall petition which, if successful, would result in a by-election. Yet another headache for the SNP…

Standards Committee Recommends 30 Day Suspension for Margaret Ferrier

The Commons Standards Committee has recommended that disgraced Ex- SNP MP Margaret Ferrier should face a 30 day Commons suspension for Covid rule breaches. This paves the way for a by-election in her Rutherglen and Hamilton West constituency. The seat is a Labour target, currently forecast to change hands.

Guido notes the Tories on the Committee, some of whom also sit on Boris’s Kangaroo Court, voted against the sanction. They instead opted for a 9 day suspension. Just short of the threshold for an automatic by-election…

Ferrier Now Accused of Another Covid Rule Breach

Sturgeon’s mate and ex-SNP MP Margaret Ferrier now faces a new allegation she breached Covid laws after her grand super-spreading tour of the UK in 2020. To remind co-conspirators of Ferrier’s Covid exploits, the MP got Covid symptoms and took a test; that same day she visited a gym, beauty salon and a shop; while waiting for the test results she took the train from Scotland to London and spoke in parliament that evening; the same evening she got a positive test result back and returned to Scotland the next morning.

Ahead of her trial on August 15th – set this afternoon – a pre-trial hearing learned of another claimed rule breach: she failed to inform test & protect about her Commons attendance. The trial’s now set to last double the five days originally allocated…

Prosecutor Mark Allan told the hearing that he now wishes to amend the single charge, to insert “and did thereafter fail to disclose to representatives of Test and Protect national contact tracing centre NHS Scotland that you did attend Houses of Parliament, Westminster on September 28, 2020″ Ferrier continued to plead not guilty…
