After an interminable 68 days of silence and diligent coverage by Guido, Jon Sopel has finally returned to Bluesky. The podcaster said he was leaving Musk’s X for good before using it constantly while ignoring his “new address” at the progressive Bluesky platform…

Anguished Bluesky users tagged Sopel and commented on his absence. He finally returned to the platform on 7 March. Sadly this was only to regurgitate copy from Musk’s X with a mundane copy and pasted post promoting a livestream of his podcast to his fans. The post received a measly ten re-blues. The podcaster was even chastised on the platform by a disappointed fan…

To add insult to injury Sopel has tweeted on Musk’s X a whopping 16 times since that lone Bluesky post, including with original thoughts such as reflections on his “obsession” with hand sanitisers. Bluesky users may not be placated for long if they realise they are missing out on this kind of insight…
It gives Guido no pleasure to report that Jon Sopel has not posted on Bluesky for a full 60 days. Agonised users have had to survive for two months without his crucial insights…
In the same period the News Agents presenter has posted on US Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk’s X platform an eye-watering 49 times. Sopel’s November announcement that he would be leaving the platform permanently was seen 1.1 million times…
Sopel is regularly tagged on posts by some of his 80,700 Bluesky followers hoping no doubt to interact briefly with their idol. They have been met with a deafening silence for the whole of 2025 so far…
Eager fans have joined the alternative platform specifically to hear Sopel’s takes on international and domestic news. Only to be bitterly disappointed.

Sopel’s co-host Emily Maitlis has been more active on the platform – she last posted 14 days ago (her last X post was today). Bluesky users will be left wondering: is the discourse better on Musk’s X?
Centrist dad Jon Sopel declared to much fanfare in November last year that he would be leaving X for Bluesky, returning to Musk’s platform “occasionally.” 17 hours later he tweeted again and by December was doing so four times more often than he was Bluesky-ing…
Now it falls to Guido to report on Bluesky users’ agony as Sopel abandons the fledgling platform for an entire month. The last time Sopel posted there was to commemorate Jimmy Carter back in 2024…
Guido hears starved Bluesky users are tearing their hair out with 30 days having passed without hearing from the News Agents host – all while Sopel froths constantly on Musk’s X. Sopel has tweeted his deep thoughts and clips a devastating 12 times in the same period…
The News Agents presenters are on tour with their live analysis and charging £45 per ticket for a February show in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. No doubt tens of anguished Bluesky users will plead with Sopel for him to return to the platform…
Still licking their wounds from Trump’s inauguration, the progressive media remain desperate to sensationalise the new President’s every move. Jon Sopel took to LBC today to rail against Trump’s flurry of executive orders. According to the centrist dad, streamlining governance is a red flag and now qualifies as “emperor”-like behaviour:
“Donald Trump is extending presidential authority to the levels of an emperor and trying to do stuff that no one would normally dare do… he is finding absolutely next to zero resistance from Congress… it’s now all about Donald Trump and him amassing huge power.”
At least Starmer can rest assured he’ll never be accused of emperorship. Meanwhile, Sopel’s modest band of followers on BlueSky are still waiting for his next great insight to appear in 2025…
Guido sometimes took to popping over to Bluesky to see what centrist dad Jon Sopel had been posting since he declared he would be leaving X back in November. As it turns out that was pointless because his exodus lasted less than 24 hours and he was posting more on X than Bluesky within about two weeks…
Now Guido can report that Sopel has given up on the progressive platform altogether. He last posted there way back in 2024…
Sopel hasn’t posted at all on Bluesky since Jimmy Carter died last year. He’s meanwhile posted on X six times in 2025. Looks like he’s back with his X long term then…
On 18th November Jon Sopel announced he was leaving X for rival Bluesky and would “call by occasionally” on the old right-wing Musk cesspit. He then returned in 17 hours…
Since Guido last checked – when Sopel was just managing to post more on Bluesky – it looks like centrist dad has given up. Sopel has posted five times in ten days on the “nicer” rival compared to a whopping 21 times on X. That lasted long…
Lucy Powell on LBC, asked by Tom Swarbrick for her reaction to Labour MP Samantha Niblett’s call for a ‘summer of sex’ debate in Parliament: “I personally don’t own any sex toys, but each to their own… I’m not really sure that’s the right place for it, no.”
