Despite having compèred a speech for Corbyn just the other day, Lucy Powell has proved she remains hostile to the Labour leader, saying on Politics Live that there’s “no love” for Corbyn on the doorstep. Her denouncement pales in comparison to Bishop Auckland’s Helen Goodman, who made a point to include this message on her leaflets:
Naughty of Goodman…
Labour incumbent and candidate for Bishop Auckland, Helen Goodman, has had an… interesting start to her re-election campaign, where she is hoping to cling on to her 500 majority.
Her campaign got off on a bad foot when notable leftie celebrity, Steve Coogan, had to drop out of her launch due to film scheduling commitments, however, Goodman quickly found another celebrity endorsement – from Oliver Letwin…
According to Helen’s leaflets, an ‘ex-Tory MP‘ has said “Helen has bust a gut to find a sensible Brexit”. By this, of course, Letwin means she voted against the deal four times and repeatedly pushed for a second referendum…
The inaccurate Brexit claim hasn’t been her biggest leaflet faux pas so far, however, as last week a local primary school had to put out a statement saying:
Helen’s not living up to her namesake and being rather naughty…
Labour Treasury Select Committee member Helen Goodman has privately blasted the Shadow Treasury team as “totally out of touch with the main economic issue of the day”. In a furious email exchange with Labour MP Julie Cooper, the PPS to Shadow Chief Secretary Seema Malhotra, Goodman condemns a Shadow Treasury team briefing document as “a disgrace” because it barely mentions the EU referendum. First, Cooper emails the briefing to the PLP:
From: COOPER, Julie
To: GOODMAN, HelenTreasury Questions is tomorrow at 11.30am. We’ve got a good draw with 11 Labour MPs selected. I have attached the PLP briefing to this email with a list of suggested questions.
Goodman then replies:
From: GOODMAN, Helen
To: COOPER, JulieDear Julie
Sorry this brief is a disgrace. This is the last treasury orals before the referendum and EU is the 16th point and doesn’t appear in the main narrative. This demonstrates that the treasury team is totally out of touch with the main economic issue of the day.
Helen
More evidence the Labour leadership not wanting to talk about the referendum is provoking mutiny…
Helen Goodman, the thinking woman’s Emily Thornberry, has tweeted this. Mrs Hunt is Chinese…
Goodman’s Labour colleagues are queuing up to condemn her:
Helen Goodman, lest we forget, was the absolute charmer who said she’d be voting for Yvette Cooper because she’s a mother. Jesus wept

Just seen Helen Goodman's tweet. What the hell is going on in the Labour party. Seriously. What is happening.

The new politics seems to consist of being a bit nasty to each other

Just tested the Goodman tweet on my husband. I like to check outcry with him…verdict…very very offensive.

If the Labour Party was your mate, now would by the time you’d try to wrest their phone from them, saying “you’ve had enough for one night”

Apology in 3, 2, 1…
UPDATE: Jeremy Hunt’s team responds: “Stay classy. Is this Labour’s kinder politics?”
UPDATE II: Tweet deleted, and she’s sorry:
Wish to absolutely totally apologise for earlier tweet.
