Gerry Downing, who was expelled from the Labour Party after Guido revealed his rants about “the Jewish question”, has vowed to vote in the leadership election. Downing told LBC he will seek to vote as an affiliate member via his trade union. Marc Wadsworth, the Momentum activist who was suspended after abusing a Jewish MP, also says he will vote as an affiliate. Will Labour HQ try to block them?

Unite had up until now managed to stay out of the Labour anti-Semitism crisis. That’s not good enough for the London ITC branch of the Union, who will next Thursday be debating readmitting suspended members. Sources say the following is specifically about anti-Semitism. The branch’s motion claims:

There has been a wave of expulsions within the Labour Party, targeting socialist activists and supporters of Party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

These comrades are being expelled on the grounds that they do not support the aims and values of the Labour Party.

This branch believes the expelled comrades are loyal Labour Party members, who are being targeted on spurious grounds as part of a right-wing campaign to undermine Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

The lack of due process involved in these expulsions is outrageous, as is the failure to apply the principles of natural justice.

The shadowy and unaccountable Compliance Unit is acting in the manner of a vigilante as a law unto itself.

This branch demands that a stop be brought to these expulsions and that all those who do support the aims and values of the Labour Party be welcomed into the Party with open arms.

That the Compliance Unit be abolished. That, rather than expelling socialist activists, Labour focus its attention on uniting together around a socialist programme in order to defend Corbyn, kick out the Tories, and end austerity.

Expelled Labour mentalist Gerry Downing has written a 4,923 word appeal to Labour’s NEC asking them to reinstate him into the party, again. Some highlights include an attached photo of a book titled “The Jewish Question” and the claim that Labour Friends of Israel is “a prime example of a technique pioneered by the Nazis; Goebbels’ technique of the Big Lie”. Intriguingly, Downing also reveals that:

“Previously the appeal body (NEC Panel) decided that support for Socialist Fight, the Marxist publication and trend that I support, was compatible with membership of the Labour Party, since it has never stood in elections against Labour in the past and had no intention of doing so in the future… I openly stated my revolutionary socialist beliefs in the original Twitter profile that was the basis for my original expulsion, and did not in any way disavow those beliefs in making my original appeal – in fact I reiterated them. My revolutionary Trotskyist views were taken into account by those who granted the appeal and all my political positions were available to them.”

According to Downing, Labour’s NEC told him Trotskyists are welcome…

Gerry Downing was given the opportunity to broadcast his call for socialist revolution on the Daily Politics. He also refused to condemn ISIS and elaborated on his views about “the Jewish question”…

Expelled Gerry Downing has – in the manner of Kim Jong Un – “issued a statement” which is more of a bizarre and rambling rant, protesting Labour’s decision to kick him out. It’s very enjoyable stuff:

“Guido Fawkes – a right wing bigot, a true political heir of William Joyce. He is another Lord Haw Haw. I will not be slandered and have my political views distorted and lied about by political scoundrels like Staines, Cameron and [Andrew] Neil. I will refute their slanders and put forward my true political beliefs. If I get expelled from the Labour party for those I have grounds to fightback. I will not accept being expelled for the outright lies that are now circulating about me and the politics of Socialist Fight.”
