Nigel Farage has confirmed that The Brexit Party will be standing a candidate in the by-election (although it won’t be Nigel). As a key Brexit voting Tory-Labour marginal it’s all to play for…

Onasanya To Face Prosecution Before Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal

The Solicitors Regulation Authority is to prosecute Fiona Onasanya after her conviction for perverting the course of justice. She will face a hearing of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal…

Fiona Onasanya Back in Court

Former Labour MP Fiona Onasanya has been the target of much ire after the convicted criminal helped Yvette Cooper’s Bill squeak through by one vote. Now it turns out that Onasanya didn’t just go through the aye lobby with her electronic angle tag, potentially in violation of her curfew. She was actually there fresh from yet another appearance in court…

One of her former caseworkers, Jan Goodenough, has taken Onasanya to tribunal over alleged disability discrimination. Goodenough told Cambridge County Court yesterday that she was unfairly treated by Onasanya and that promises were not kept over close access to a toilet at Onasanya’s constituency office in Peterborough.

The recall petition in Peterborough is still open for several more weeks. Her constituents should find out by Monday if their disgraced MP has fallen foul of the law again…

Francois Fumes as Cooper Coup Scrapes Through by One Vote

Rampant Remainers succeeded in ramming an entire Bill through the House of Commons in under 6 hours yesterday – predictably the process was an utter shambles, MPs had no idea which amendments were which, report stage and a third reading debate were entirely skipped and the Bill was so poorly drafted in the first place that Jolyon almost had a meltdown. Mark Francois has been responsible for some fairly fruity outbursts recently but his biblical admonishment last night was on the money:

After the hours of chaos, Yvette Cooper only succeeded in getting her Bill through by a single vote, 313-312. Any number of MPs have been singled out as the guilty party, 20 Tories including 17 former ministers either rebelled or abstained. Literally guilty Fiona Onasanya trapsed through the Aye lobby complete with electronic ankle tag…

Ultimately it changes little, May was always going to seek a longer extension at next week’s European Council in the circumstances anyway. Conspiracy theories that May’s Corbyn pitch is a trap or trick to run down the clock are operating in a parallel universe. Make no mistake, Number 10 is in total chaos and acting purely out of desperation now. May’s long-term strategy was always to trigger an 11th hour crisis in the hope of bouncing MPs – she never for a minute anticipated that it would be so utterly out of her own control…

Fiona Onasanya’s New Fightback Video: I’m Still Innocent

Two months ago Fiona Onasanya was found guilty in a court of law for perverting the course of justice. After serving just one month of her three month sentence, she then had her appeal comprehensively refused by the Court of Appeal two weeks ago. None of this has deterred her from making a new video insisting she is still innocent…

Rather than accepting any responsibility or the verdicts of the criminal justice system, the disgraced former Labour MP blames hostile “news articles and television articles” for her conviction, complaining that her mission to be Peterborough’s “voice of change in the corridors of power” has been “somewhat overshadowed” by her conviction. You don’t say…

Even more bizarrely, she has decided to make her appeal to the voters of Peterborough in front of a backdrop of the New York City skyline. Is she even allowed to be there under the terms of her parole? The recall petition opens tomorrow…

Fiona Onasanya Still Describing Herself as a Labour MP

Disgraced MP Fiona Onasanya is still signing her emails off as ‘Labour Member of Parliament for Peterborough’ despite being expelled from the party in December last year. Still holding out hope that she’ll be re-admitted..?

Onasanya Recall Petition Process Initiated

John Bercow has now formally given notice to the house that there will be a recall petition in Peterborough. Labour majority 607. It opens in ten working days from today…

Judge Refuses Fiona Onasanya’s Appeal Against Her Conviction

Convicted Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya has had her appeal against her conviction refused at the Court of Appeal this morning. Qualified solicitor Onasanya took the decision to defend herself and failed to bring any papers along. Brave…

Judge Sir Brian Leveson concluded that Onasanya had been fairly tried by a jury and that there was no misdirection, upholding her initial conviction for perverting the course of justice and three month jail sentence. Of which she only served one

Separately, Guido has seen confirmation that the Solicitors Regulation Authority has referred Onasanya to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal over her conduct. This could lead to Onasanya being struck off from the Roll of Solicitors…

Now that Onasanya has exhausted her appeal route, it is the Speaker’s responsibility to initiate the process for a recall petition against Onasanya. The voters of Peterborough will then have six weeks to sign the petition. If at least 10% sign then a by-election will be triggered…

Fiona Onasanya Freed From Prison After Just 28 Days

Disgraced former Labour MP Fiona Onasanya is expected to walk free from prison today, after just 28 days of her three month sentence. She will be at liberty to go about her business as she wishes but will be made to wear an electronic tag, and to follow a curfew. This would not prevent her from appearing in the Commons to participate in crunch Brexit votes this week…

Yesterday the Attorney General declared her sentence was not unduly lenient despite Chris Huhne receiving far longer for a similar offence. A slap in the face for the people of Peterborough…

Onasanya’s Jail Sentence ‘Not Unduly Lenient’

Attorney General Geoffrey Cox’s office has concluded that the three months Fiona Onasanya was sentenced to for lying about speeding was not an unduly lenient sentence, after a review and “careful consideration”. A spokesperson for the office said that “The threshold [to refer the case to the Court of Appeal] is a high one, and the test was not met in this case.”

Meanwhile, Onasanya has earned almost £6,000 of her generous MPs salary for the few weeks she has been behind bars, not working. By the time she gets out in April, she will have received £20,000…

How Much has Fiona Onasanya Earned Since Being Sentenced?

A crafty co-conspirator has created this handy website so Fiona Onasanya’s constituents can keep track of exactly how much she has earned from the taxpayer as she continues to collect her MP’s salary while serving her three months in prison for perverting the course of justice. She’s already earned almost £250 in just one day of sitting in jail…

That’s before you consider her Parliamentary staffing allowance for the three months of up to £37,725, not to mention the cost of her living at Her Majesty’s pleasure which could be around another £17,000. All the while the people of Peterborough don’t have an MP. She should do the honourable thing and resign now rather than waiting for her constituents to force her out…

Onasanya Sentenced to Three Months In Prison

Fiona Onasanya, Peterborough’s Labour* MP who was last year found guilty of perverting the course of justice, has been sentenced this morning to three months. She has become the first woman MP ever to be jailed…

The judge said that  “If she wasn’t an MP or wasn’t in a position of responsibility, she would go inside. It’s not one law for those in a position of power, and another for those who are not.”

“By the time you met a police investigator, you knew that you were providing information that you knew to be untrue. You deliberately committed the offend of which you are convicted.  That was a disastrous decision. It is an aggravating feature that you both persisted with dishonest course… It was a serious and flagrant offence.”

Onasanya’s defence argued that as a barrister and an MP, prison time would be overly harsh, as “she will no longer be able to work in either of her chosen professions.” Guido would have thought that she should have considered this before attempting to pervert the course of justice…

Her brother Festus, who had previously been sentenced to 54 months back in 2011 for offensive robbery, and had a raft of drug offences is expected to serve prison time for ten months. His guilty plea entitled him to a reduction of 15%.

Upon her conviction last year, Onasanya compared herself to Jesus, claiming she was “in good biblical company” with Joseph, Moses, and Daniel as well, “who were each found guilty by the courts of their day.” Today she failed to rise again…

A by-election is now all but certain. The sentence leads to a Recall Petition, triggering a by-election if 10% of Peterborough constituents sign it. Onasanya won the heavily leave voting seat in 2017 with a majority of just 607. The local Tory candidate is already out campaigning…

*Former Labour MP, she votes with the Labour front bench even though she was expelled from the party.

UPDATE:  Labour have called on Onasanya to “act honourably and resign.” A spokesman said “she should do this without delay and not take another penny in salary from the public purse.” They’ve also confirmed that they will support efforts to out her through a recall petition if she refuses to budge…

Fiona Onasanya’s “Inspired” Moment

Fresh from the news that she has been expelled from the Labour Party following her conviction last month, an inexplicable video has surfaced of Fiona Onasanya telling the camera “I’ve just come out of a meeting and I feel inspired” before proceeding to mime the actions for snorting an imaginary substance of ill-repute off a desk. At least she can’t really ruin her political career any more than she has already…

Onasanya Expelled From Labour Party

No longer just suspended as an MP, the disgraced former Labour Whip who compared herself to Jesus after her conviction has now been expelled from the party. Labour chairman Ian Lavery announced that she was booted out of the party after refusing to stand down and force a by election, allowing a new Labour candidate to stand in her place. She intends to sit for the remainder of the parliament. She might need to update her Twitter account…

Fiona Onasanya Guilty of Perverting Course of Justice

Labour MP Fiona Onasanya has been found guilty of perverting the course of justice after a mammoth Old Bailey trial. She stood accused of lying over who was driving a speeding car. The last MP to be found guilty of a similar offence was Chris Huhne. He resigned and a by election was called. Onasanya’s leave voting Peterborough seat has a Labour majority of just 607…

UPDATE: Labour says they have suspended Onasanya and say she should resign as an MP…

“The Labour Party is deeply disappointed in Fiona Onasanya’s behaviour. It falls well below what is expected of politicians. She should now resign.”

The Conservatives selected their new Peterborough candidate, Paul Bristow, in October.

The I Mistakes Disgraced Labour Shadow Minister for Labour Whip

In a very awkward error, the i have illustrated a story about disgraced, journalist-threatening Labour shadow minister Kate Osamor with a picture of on-trial-accused-of-perverting-the-course-of-justice Labour whip Fiona Onasanya. Picture editors elsewhere will be thinking, “there but for the grace of God”…

Onasanya Seeking Support Manager

Fiona Onasanya, who has for the last three weeks been on trial at the Old Bailey charged with perverting the course of justice is on the look out for a “Support Manager” in Westminster to “ensure a range of efficient secretarial and administrative support.” Onasanya admitted in the course of her trial to being overwhelmed by emails’, with about 5,000 unread messages in her parliamentary inbox.

After her old communications chief testified against her in court, Guido suspects that Onasanya will want to get along with her new assistant a little better than previous employees, however long they remain in the role. Applications close today, so be sure to send in your CV quickly!

Onasanya Jury Dismissed – Labour MP to Face Retrial

Peterborough’s MP and Labour whip Fiona Onasanya has been facing trial for the past three weeks at the Old Bailey, accused of perverting the course of justice by lying about who was driving her car after it was caught speeding. The case is remarkably similar to that of Chris Huhne, who resigned as an MP as a result of his trial.

The jury has failed to reach a verdict and has been dismissed by the judge. Onasanya will have to face a retrial….

Labour MP On Trial Says She Was ‘Overwhelmed By Emails’

Labour MP Fiona Onasanya, who is facing trial for perverting the course of justice has today told the Old Bailey that she was overwhelmed by thousands of emails when she became an MP in June last year.

The qualified solicitor told the court that becoming an MP was “a bit like a freshers’ fair” and that she had about 5,000 unanswered emails in her inbox.

“It was a little bit like being asked if you can swim and you say ‘Yes, I can get by, I can swim’, and then you get thrown in the ocean, it’s not comparable.”

Of the 94 new MPs elected in 2017 Onasanya is the only one on trial charged with perverting the course of justice.

Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya’s former head of communications Dr. Christian DeFeo has appeared in the Old Bailey to give evidence against the Peterborough MP, as her trial enters its fifth day. The prosecution’s case is that Fiona Onasanya schemed with her brother Festus to claim a Russian man was behind the wheel of her speeding car.[…] Read the rest
