Chris Davies MEP has been continuing the trend of his sweary ‘bollocks to Brexit’ Lib Dem MEP group, this time in an email in which he describes a group as “a bunch of lying duplicitous b*astards that spout greenwash”. To save the representative’s face, we’ve elected to keep schtum on who he was talking about…
The email was sent by the chair of the European Parliament’s Fisheries Committee yesterday, before attempting a Gmail recall four hours later. A Lib Dem press officer replied “How on earth did you get that… I don’t doubt for a second that this email is real” Unfortunately for Chris, not only had the email already been received and read – he’d actively put the quote in bold…
Interesting choice from the Tories over the weekend who re-selected expense-fiddling MP Chris Davies to fight the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election after he was unseated by a recall petition. The numbers look tight for Davies: he had an 8,000 majority in 2017, over 10,000 constituents signed the recall petition, almost double the required threshold. And now the Brexit Party are in the fray too…
The LibDems held the seat from 1997-2015, the bookies reckon they’ve got it in the bag already with very short 1/5 odds, the Tories are way out on 8/1 behind the Brexit Party. To Guido this looks like a damage limitation exercise from CCHQ. They’ve written the seat off already, by putting Davies back in he can own the defeat himself rather than have it tarnish the incoming leader…
Following the conviction of Tory MP Chris Davies and a subsequent recall petition, his constituency of Brecon & Radnorshire will face a by election. 10,005 constituents signed the petition, accounting for 19% of the constituency and almost double the 10% requirement. The Government commands a Commons majority of just five, and nationally the Tory party is polling in fourth place…
The seat was held by the Lib Dems from 1997 until 2015. The Tories currently have an 8,000 majority but with the Brexit Party splitting the vote and a classic Labour squeeze, the bookies have the Lib Dems heavily odds-on at 1/5. Tight Parliamentary arithmetic will become even tighter…
Tory MP Christopher Davies has got off with a £1,500 fine and 50 hours’ community service after admitting to submitting two false expense invoices. Davies escaped becoming the second MP to go to jail this year after Fiona Onasanya…
UPDATE: The Tories finally comment: “Chris Davies has been given a formal warning from the Chief Whip following today’s ruling. He has apologised and it is right that the people of Brecon and Radnorshire now get to have their say about whether they still support Mr Davies.”
The Crown Prosecution Service have charged Brecon and Radnorshire Tory MP Chris Davies with falsifying two invoices in support of Parliamentary expense claims. Davies is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 22 March. He has been charged over claims relating to furniture for his Parliamentary office in 2016…
