It turns out you can buy friendly coverage from Channel 4 journalists for roughly £40. With the rail strikes continuing for another day, Channel 4 News‘ Cathy Newman feared her planned trip up to Leeds would be derailed. Imagine the horror. As luck would have it, the LNER’s Head of Customer Relations was on-hand to save the day, upgrading Newman to first-class for her entire journey, and even ensuring her train departed a minute early. An early Christmas miracle – one which Newman had to share with her 241,000 Twitter followers…
Unfortunately, when Cathy realised it wasn’t a great reflection of her journalistic talents to lap up a train company’s PR stunt in the middle of a strike, she deleted the post. At least any company looking for a Channel 4 puff piece in future know how much it costs. A standard ticket from King’s Cross to Leeds costs £34.80; first class costs £76. Cough up £41.20, pour her a coffee, and Cathy will sort your PR out…
Former Shadow Home Secretary, Diane Abbott, gave a memorable interview to Cathy Newman on Times Radio on Friday night, though she might want to forget it. In the toe-curling-to-listen-to clip, Diane was asked to “name one policy you would like Keir to embrace that he doesn’t already” and was unable to name a single policy she wants Keir to adopt. Guido suspects Diane will have needed another drink or two after that performance…
For over a minute Diane flailed and fumbled, barely able to form a coherent sentence. Thank goodness Times Radio didn’t ask Diane to do any maths…
Media outlets are always struggling for guests on Friday nights and Guido has learnt to turn them down if, as often is the case on a Friday, he is particularly well refreshed. Guido hopes Diane was feeling better on Saturday morning…
The People’s Assembly Against Austerity march in London this afternoon was supposed to be the more presentable sequel to last month’s ‘Day of Rage’. Didn’t quite work out like that. Corbyn, McDonnell, Diane Abbott and Owen Jones addressed a crowd of communist flag waving cranks and demonstrators carrying placards calling the PM and her chief of staff “murderers“.
Imagine making these to go on a demo with and not wondering "Are we the baddies?" pic.twitter.com/0xjJj0luID

This charming lady carried a placard showing Theresa May’s head impaled on a bloodied spike. She claimed to be a Labour Party member from New Forest Gate. Corbyn described the protesters as “the movement that will win the next election”.
Channel 4 News’ Cathy Newman was spotted in discussion with Paul Mason. Jon “F**k the Tories” Snow sitting this one out?
A standard Saturday afternoon out for Jez…
Breitbart provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos versus Channel 4 News’ Cathy Newman on the alt-right, feminism, Steve Bannon and those satirical headlines. Cathy says it was one of her “biggest bust-ups”. Milo has been tipped as the President-elect’s White House Press Secretary:

The anti-violence campaigner has now deleted her tweet…
Debate swirls in Westminster about Tory MP Col Bob Stewart’s use of the word “totty” to describe the Speccie’s Isabel Hardman…
Isabel Oakeshott says: “Strong women don’t need to whine about sexists calling us ‘totty’”
Isabel Hardman says: “that is NOT on and lobby women shouldn’t have to put up with it. So I have passed the MP’s name on to a whip.”
Cathy Newman says: “I’m with Isabel on this… Isabel Hardman.”
Julia Hartley-Brewer says: “Many years ago I was at a dinner at a Conservative Party conference with a couple of MPs. One of those MPs kept putting his hand on my knee. The third time I removed his hand and said it is very simple, either you don’t put my hand on my knee again or I am going to punch you in the face.”
Who are you backing? Take Guido’s poll…
Cathy Newman gave BBC Trust chair Rona Fairhead a going over on Channel 4 News last night for earning half a million quid from her second job at HSBC. On top of the £110,000-a-year she trousers from her 3 day week at the Beeb.
Tune in tonight where Cathy will surely be grilling another taxpayer-funded broadcast boss. Terry Burns is paid a salary of £100,000 for five days a month, which, like Rona, is topped up with a six figure second job as a director at a bank, Santander.
Except Cathy isn’t going to be grilling him this evening, because Burns is the chairman of Channel 4…
