Kath Viner Not Keen on Seumas Affair Story

A Guardian source tells MediaGuido those photos of lefty lothario Seumas Milne were the talk of the newsroom yesterday. Hacks at Kings Place spent the day speculating about the identity of their former colleague’s blonde companion. Yet for some strange reason the tale doesn’t make today’s paper, despite being all over rival broadsheets. Seems editor Kath Viner is not keen on Seumas affair stories…

The Plan For a Quieter Heathrow Expansion
Sponsored Post

Heathrow drives the economic competitiveness of London and the South East. Its uniquely attractive catchment area, in turn a result of Heathrow’s connectivity, results in Heathrow’s airlines flying more premium seats per aircraft than any other major hub. The Thames Valley is home to the European headquarters of ten of the top 30 global brands: an economic powerhouse dependent on access to global markets.

We at Heathrow Hub believe that our scheme has significant advantages over every other proposal under consideration.

Heathrow Hub is an integrated air and rail facility which would double the number of Heathrow’s available aircraft slots, allowing more flights while also reducing delays and improving the airport’s resilience and efficiency. The extra capacity could reduce noise impacts by reducing the airport’s opening hours, allowing early morning arrivals to land two miles further west (reducing noise over much of London). It also creates opportunities for noise mitigation, by allowing some slots to be used to facilitate runway alternation, and would be compatible with innovative noise reduction techniques like quieter approaches and steeper climb-outs. Crucially, few (if any) new areas will be brought into the airport’s noise footprint. The scheme would also be cost effective: the cost and the airport user charges would be much lower than that of any other new airport. It would also be entirely privately funded.

The scheme involves extending both of the existing runways up to a total length of about 7,000 metres and dividing them so that they each provides two, full-length, runways, allowing simultaneous take-offs and landings. It also includes a new passenger interchange immediately north of Terminal 5, directly connecting the airport with the M25 motorway, Crossrail, the Great Western Main Line and, as an option, an alternative HS2 route via the airport.

News Outlets No Longer Break News
Sponsored Post

News outlets no longer break news: politicians, journalists and bloggers have jump-started the digital political communications revolution.

Even David ‘too many tweets makes a twat’ Cameron’s latest government reshuffle took place entirely on the government’s @number10gov account. Elsewhere commentators in the know provided round-the-clock updates, meaning the entire reshuffle could be tracked, analysed and digested from the moment rumours became fact.

Anyone worth hearing in the political sphere is talking across social media platforms. And in a world where an Opposition leader can wipe billions of pounds off an industry’s worth with a single statement, the value of missing out on what a key MP or journalist says online can’t be ignored.
Step forward Yatterbox, a free social media monitoring service that identifies and tracks key influencers and commentators who impact your organisation and its reputation.

Yatterbox’s fully customisable alerts system ensures you stay ahead of the game when important commentators mention your brand, your issues, or your competitors online. By focusing on key influencers and thought leaders, Yatterbox cuts out the ‘noise’ and only captures conversations relevant to you.

Yatterbox tracks over 4,000 influencers in our system, including Members of Parliament, think tanks, government departments and other key individuals.

Need crisis alerts in case anyone influential criticises your brand? Worried about a political party or a gang of commentators picking on your industry? Want to track the progress of the latest Parliamentary bill? Need to know if your latest campaign is getting traction online with the people who matter? Want to know if an important influencer has ever talked about you or your industry online?

Yatterbox is the one stop shop to ensure the uniformed aren’t left uninformed.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up free for Yatterbox today and put yourself back in control.

London and the UK – Propelling World Trade
Sponsored Post

maritime-uk-logo

Shipping, ports and maritime business services are at the heart of the UK economy.  We move 95% of the UK’s international trade, support 537,000 UK jobs, contribute £32bn to GDP and pay £8.5bn in tax – all because the UK is known across the world as the best place to do maritime business.

But that status is under threat. Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai and Hong Kong are all aggressively seeking to take that business from us.  If our economy is to thrive, we must not let them.

It is for that reason that Maritime UK, together with other industry partners, is hosting the inaugural London International Shipping Week.

Next week, London will welcome Chairmen, CEOs and senior figures from across the world, operating in every field of maritime business, to see for themselves what makes the UK special.  Ministers from across Government will have the opportunity to listen to, and learn from the investors our economy relies upon.  It is an opportunity that they must take.

Our long and proud history as a maritime nation has provided an unrivalled wealth of expertise, passed on through the generations that no emerging economy could ever hope to replicate.  So it is right that we use our maritime past to create our maritime future.

The world’s largest shipping companies, most innovative port operators, and the most comprehensive list of ship finance, insurance, broking and legal firms are all to be found here – underpinned by a level of expertise, integrity and thought-leadership that cannot be found elsewhere.

But in times past, the UK has been too quiet in promoting its greatest strengths.  London International Shipping Week marks a new chapter, where we openly market ourselves to the world – where we stand together to say we do not just want to compete in the global race, we want to win it.

But if we are to build the environment where winning new investment is possible, we need an end to political point-scoring on taxation, skills and training. Instead, we must develop a mature, cross-party consensus that commits to making the UK the most competitive place in the world.  If that happens, new growth and quality new jobs will follow.  London International Shipping Week, we hope, will begin that process.

By fighting to keep the UK at the heart of international trade, we are doing our part both for the UK economy, and its standing in the world.

The UK is open for maritime business – in the coming days we will prove it.

Keep track of LISW by following us on Twitter or on our website.

Head of Maritime UK
