Hau-Yu Tam reposted marked map of New Cross Road onto her Instagram story from an ‘anti-raid’ network which advised:
“Police are using live facial recognition surveillance in Deptford today, on the high st. The surveillance van (see pic) is parked at the south/bottom end by the Asda (red pin). Avoid the area if you can and warn others – if you can see the van, the cameras can see you.”
The Met’s biometric technology scans digital camera feeds and compares facial features against a specific watchlist of wanted individuals. As the dystopian saying goes – nothing to hide, nothing to fear…

UPDATE: Chris Philp, Shadow Home Secretary, said:
“The Greens may not like live facial recognition, but we can recognise them for what they are. Lewisham deserves a council more interested in catching criminals than protecting them.
Live facial recognition has the potential to transform policing, as DNA did previously, providing the ability to catch criminals in vast crowds who often would have gotten away.”
Tom Baldwin, author of Starmer’s hagiography, spoke to Times Radio:
