Starmer has suggested that the rise in fuel duty could be reversed before it is defrosted in September. In PMQs he said:
“We will keep the situation under review in light of what’s happening in Iran.”
Reeves told the Treasury Committee about 20 minutes before that she was ‘loath’ to climb down from the tax hike and blamed rising prices on the market and “price-gouging.” Which doesn’t exist here…
In the meantime the PM is accusing Badenoch (and Farage) of supporting “the mother of all U-turns” by “supporting a war without thinking through the consequences” and then changing their minds. He knows a thing or two about U-turns when it comes to Iran…
Speaking at his speech on how to achieve “progressive capitalism” Wes Streeting fired a dig and Andy Burnham:
“Bond markets are not bond villains and fiscal rules matter.”
