Greater Manchester Police are investigating the Labour Party over a Gorton and Denton by-election campaign event, according to the Telegraph. Around 600 people at a dinner for south Asian community members were told to hold up posters supporting Labour candidate Angeliki Stogia “if you want to get fed”…
The police are now investigating Labour for the alleged electoral offence of bribing voters with food – called “treating“. The organiser of the event can be heard saying:
“There needs to be a sea of red Angeliki posters in this hall. Friends, there are some people still sat down, not holding the flyers up. This is really important. If you want to get fed, I’ve been told you have to hold one of these up.”
