In what was one of the more ridiculous Lobby briefings in recent times, the Number 10 spokesman today could not confirm whether Chris Wormald is still in post as Cabinet Secretary, who the incumbent is if it’s not Wormald, or whether there is an ongoing process to replace him (obviously there is). Asked on all those questions, the spokesman simply said he would “not comment on speculation“. Apparently asking Number 10 to name the country’s top civil servant amounts to “speculation” now…
The good news is “the Cabinet Office still being supervised by Cabinet Secretary“. Whoever that person is…
Speaking on the Labour chaos over the last few weeks, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told The Guardian:
“You call it a sh*tshow, I say it’s unforgivable…It does look to people outside that we’re more interested in ourselves and less interested in preventing chaos. […] We’ve not done enough, and this has got to be the moment of reckoning where we say not just what are we here for, but who are we here for?”
