Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan cannot bring herself to say that Starmer is a good Prime Minister. It would be electoral suicide, wouldn’t it…
After failing to defend Westminster’s refusal to hand over more powers to the Welsh Government – on policing for example – Morgan could only say “Keir Starmer isn’t on the ballot paper.” She was asked by the Today Programme’s Justin Webb if Starmer is a good PM:
“What I’m saying to the people of Wales is… What I’m saying to the people of Wales is that he’s not on the ballot paper. That is not what people will be voting for in May… I am absolutely clear that who is on the ballot paper in May is not Keir Starmer… This is not an opportunity for a free vote against the UK government. This is not a time for protest votes. The things that matter here is who is going to deliver those services that people rely on in Wales. And the fact is that people will have a choice. They’ll have a choice between the chaos that reform will offer, the pipe dreams that Plaid will offer, which will be a road to independence.”
At this point Guido’s not sure even Starmer would say it…
Overheard by a co-conspirator in Parliament, minister Chris Bryant speaking to Tory MP Paul Holmes:
“You must be happy now that all the bastards are leaving.”
