Starmer has not denied National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell was involved in the collapse of the Chinese ‘spies’ case. During a press conference in India, Starmer was asked:
“Can you say categorically whether any minister, or Jonathan Powell, was involved in the decision not to provide the CPS with evidence evidence that at the time the offences were alleged to have taken place, China represented a threat to national security?”
Starmer responded:
“I can be absolutely clear no ministers were involved in any of the decisions since this government’s been in, in relation to the evidence that’s put before the court on this issue.”
Yesterday, flood minister Emma Hardy was asked whether Powell, who is not a minister, was involved, to which she responded that the decision had “nothing to do with him, nothing to do with ministers whatsoever. That is completely false.” The cracks are forming…
Starmer loyalist and Housing Secretary Steve Reed told Sky News that Starmer should not be replaced:
“We saw what the Tories did. They were in power for 14 years, and after 2016, I think we had nine education secretaries, seven chancellors, and five Prime Ministers. Doomscrolling through Prime Ministers doesn’t resolve the problem.”
