In a sign of the times, David Lammy has abandoned his defence of taking the knee. Co-conspirators will recall the media circus back in 2020, when Lammy, Starmer, and Rayner all dropped to the floor in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. A year later, Lammy was still proudly tweeting: “This is why we take the knee. Praying for a better future”…
Now Lammy says that moment has passed. He told Times Radio:
“I think that was a moment in time after the murder of George Floyd. I think that moment has probably passed. I haven’t seen actually for some years people using that particular gesture.”
His comments follow news that the Lionesses will no longer be taking the knee before kick-off, citing a need for “another way” to tackle racism. Not exactly news to some…
Speaking at his speech on how to achieve “progressive capitalism” Wes Streeting fired a dig and Andy Burnham:
“Bond markets are not bond villains and fiscal rules matter.”
