An error in Rayner’s Times op ed on votes at 16. Originally she said of youngsters in England:
“By law, they can get married and serve our country in the armed forces — but, unlike their peers in Scotland and Wales, 16-year-olds in England and Northern Ireland can’t vote. Why not?”
There was also a push notification that said the same thing. Guido seems to remember the law being changed quite publicly in 2023. The article now reads:
“By law, they can serve our country in the armed forces — but, unlike their peers in Scotland and Wales, 16-year-olds in England and Northern Ireland can’t vote. Why not?”
No correction was issued – just a quiet edit. Back to school to join the other now-voters…
