Whoever’s in charge of quality control in the House is doing God’s work. Louise Haigh was standing in for the PM – he’s in Antigua making reparations for our crimes against humanity. Not only did she bring the dignity of office to the despatch box, but she was the cause of dignity in others.
No one brought up her conviction for fraud, no one laughed at her new hair, no one heckled “It’s for you-hoo” (her offence – her criminal offence – was to have obtained a £1,249 iPhone by deception). No one mentioned she had been plotting with Andy Burnham to dispose of Starmer a year after his historic landslide. This was pavement politics – a decisive step up from the gutter.
