Rory Stewart has admitted it was “a mistake” to disguise himself with a MAGA hat on recent trip to the US for the midterms, as if he only realised ten minutes ago that the hat might upset people who don’t support Donald Trump:
“In retrospect, though, I think it was a mistake. I mean, I am picking up very much from people here that wearing a MAGA hat… it’s not cool. It’s not something that Americans think is funny. It’s a symbol people find so disturbing and traumatising, and they see it as an endorsement of President Trump.”
Trump has dominated US politics for ten years. Everyone’s view on the MAGA been quite clear for the same amount of time. Is it really a surprise that people who don’t like Trump also take a dim view of his merch?
Krishnan Guru-Murthy asked John Healey: “Just finally, I mean Andy Burnham has been very clear he wants Britain back in the European Union in his lifetime. Do you?”
The Chancellor replied: “I’m older than Andy Burnham. I don’t expect to see that.”
