The Department for Work and Pensions spent £12.2 million on translation services last year, up from £6.9 million in 2022-23. Who knows why…
The biggest jump came in 2024-25, the year Labour took office, when the bill rose by £3 million in twelve months before continuing to rise by another £2.1 million the year after. The figures came in answer to a parliamentary question from Shadow Work and Pensions minister Andrew Snowden. DWP minister Lilian Greenwood said:
“DWP holds information for the following financial years:
2022-2023 total contract spend: £6,895,106.22
2023-2024 total contract spend: £7,122,478.06
2024-2025 total contract spend: £10,096,628.84
2025-2026 total contract spend: £12,213,080.48″
That comes to more than £36 million in four years. Lost in translation…
Robert Jenrick on the Today programme:
“Can you now give a guarantee to your listeners this morning that no BBC presenter in the future will be exposed as a paedophile, as a number have been in the recent past? No, of course you can’t…”
