Conservative Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Paul Bristow joins The Guido Fawkes Show Live to react to Kemi Badenoch’s speech at Tory conference. The highlights:
Badenoch “got us back on the front foot”, and now needs to “start talking to the country.”
Healey’s Budget will be a “seminal moment” and a clear economic choice.
Soft Reform voters are ex-Tories and need to be shown that the Tories are serious and have “done the maths.”
The Tories shouldn’t be too happy: “We need a serious alternative… we’ve got a lot of work to do… it was a positive conference but we shouldn’t be triumphalist… we’re there or thereabouts where we were at the last GE, we’re not moving forward in the polls in the way that I feel we now can… we’ve got a lot of people we need to talk to.”
Advice: “After the Budget let’s go on an election footing campaign… explain why this Budget is wrong… we have to make the case for capitalism, free markets, for choice.”
On the party becoming ‘The Kemi Show’: “It’s her party, people recognise that.”
On campaign footing: “Because we’ve sorted ourselves out internally… that’s not job done, now we need to go out and do that to the rest of the country.”
