Kemi Badenoch has insisted £10 billion would be enough to build the Conservatives’ planned ‘Britannia Shield’ air defence system which leads the Tory agenda this morning. At the time of going to pixel, Badenoch is touring the broadcast studios to explain where the cash will come from. And to claim it won’t be called an ‘Iron Dome’, despite the Tories press release saying it is “in essence, a ‘British Iron Dome'”…
Badenoch told BBC Breakfast it would be funded by setting aside £1 billion a year for a decade, adding on the Today programme that the Shield is “the same type of thing” as Israel’s Iron Dome, but said Britain needed “something specific for the kind of threat that we face here“. Just don’t call it a Dome, clear?
Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge is set to unveil the plans in full this afternoon. The Shadow Dome Secretary speaks…
Kemi Badenoch at the 1922-ConHome bash last night:
“I did praise [Burnham] for his stamina, it was amazing. All I had to do was sit back and lie there. I didn’t have to do anything at all…”
