Former Deputy Labour leader Tom Watson has resigned as director and board member of the parent company of some renewable firms which build eco-networks and turbines. The ennobled Watson surprised staff at the company on his abrupt resignation…
Watson resigned as non-executive director of Windward Energy and Windward Enterprises on 10 September. A spokesman for the former said:
“We can confirm that Tom Watson has stepped down from the Boards of Windward Energy and Windward Enterprises. Following his successful recovery from prostate cancer, Tom has expressed his interest in reprioritising his efforts to focus on the country’s fight for better health and against cancer, particularly prostate cancer which affects on in eight men.”
Something afoot – Is someone shedding their conflicts of interest?
Andy Haldane, Burnham’s recent adviser on the economy who has not taken up a No10 job, told Andrew Marr on LBC:
“The market now suspects that this is a traditional tax-and-spend socialist government with better TikTok videos…
imposing windfall taxes on oil & gas or on banks or upping capital gains tax would […] repeat the mistake that Rachel made […] The Achilles heel, the fiscal Achilles heel of this government thus far has been its unwillingness and/or inability to cut public spending.”
