There was Corbyn’s ‘kinder, gentler politics’ that unleashed a virulent left-wing antisemitism; then there was Starmer’s ‘calm, patient work of government’ producing the Cabaret of Spastic Marionettes; and now we see Andy Burnham’s ‘new way of doing politics’ lasting less than a lettuce.
In his inaugural PMQs, he was defending his tax cuts by attacking Liz Truss’s tax cutting budget. Politics had been done differently for six minutes. The question was asked: “How does he plan to tackle the Government’s rising debt costs?” and he answered at some length that the whole of the Conservative front bench were “part of a Government that lasted 49 days” and “crashed the economy.”
