Last week Sioned Williams, thr the Welsh Deputy First Minister and ‘Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality’ said the Welsh Refugee Council has been “allocated £840,000 (including VAT) for the current financial year (2026-2027) to lead delivery of the Wales Sanctuary Service.” Pretty pennies…
The Welsh Refugee Council offers support to illegal immigrants seeking asylum as well as refugees. It is the main promoter of the “Nation of Sanctuary” policy which forces the government to provide wide and unconditional support (e.g. “emotional support“) and funding to asylum seekers. It runs other initiatives like the “Asylum Rights Programme funded by Welsh Government to enable asylum seekers to understand and access their rights.” Funded by taxpayer grants…
A Reform UK Wales spokesman tells Guido:
“Plaid Cymru seem ideologically obsessed with spending Welsh taxpayer cash on encouraging illegal immigrants into Wales.
They have already made Wales into a Nation of Sanctuary, and pumped cash into legal advisers for asylum seekers, when will they put the people of Wales first? This funding to the Welsh Refugee Council should be scrapped and put into actual devolved areas such as our NHS.”
Or better still, don’t spend it at all…
