From YouGov:
- In YouGov’s latest favourability poll, Burnham has a net favourability rating of -11, with 30% of Britons liking the would-be PM, versus 41% who dislike him
- Before mid-May, Burnham’s net favourability score was positiv
“In earlier polls in this series, Andy Burnham achieved a positive net favourability rating (+9 at its peak). However, his popularity declined starting from the middle of May – the period that encompassed the Labour party revolt against Keir Starmer that included Wes Streeting’s resignation and Josh Simons stepping down in Makerfield, triggering the by-election that Andy Burnham is likely to win.
As a result, Burnham now takes a net favourability rating of -11 in our latest poll: 30% of Britons like the would-be PM, versus 41% who dislike him.”
The Manchester bubble has popped…
On defence and Healey, More in Common has done some polling:
- Britons don’t trust Starmer or Burnham with defence: just 16 per cent of Britons say they trust Starmer; 16 per cent trust Burnham – two-thirds say neither (46 per cent) or don’t know (22 per cent).
- Few Britons think the UK is ready for war: only 20 per cent say the UK could defend itself in a war at home; only 12 per cent think we’re ready for war abroad. Two-thirds of Britons think the UK could not defend itself from a Russian (66 per cent) or Chinese (68 per cent) invasion.
- Most Britons (52 per cent) want the Government to increase defence spending including nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of Labour voters.
- 2 in 5 Britons do not trust any of the five major party leaders on defence and security.
- By two to one, Britons back Healey’s decision to resign. The public is twice as likely to say that Defence Secretary John Healey was right (46 per cent) to resign than not (23 per cent).
16% for both…
