Yesterday the government appointed Lord Jack McConnell as a ‘Ministerial Adviser on Soft Power and Major Events.’ He will “support the government’s ambition to cement the UK’s position as the go-to destination for the world’s most prestigious sporting and cultural events, drawing on his experience in international affairs, public policy and supporting the delivery of major events”…
Lord McConnell’s declaration of interests shows he is a Labour donor and actually funded Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy personally:
“He declared that he has made regular donations to the Scottish Labour Party and Labour Party. He donated £1000 to the Secretary of State’s campaign to be leader of the Labour Party in 2020, which was below the threshold for reporting to the Electoral Commission.”
Starmer’s government may now be in a slow-motion crash but the Labour gravy train is still rolling…
UPDATE: Shadow Culture Secretary Nigel Huddleston says:
“Another Labour donor appointed to an important government role. Part of a recurring pattern within this government of appointments being made despite clear potential conflicts of interest. So much for highest standards of integrity.”
Paula Barker, Liverpool Wavertree MP backing Andy Burnham, told Times Radio there wouldn’t be trouble from the markets under Burnham:
“The markets will have to fall in line.”
