The post-PMQs lobby huddle was one for the ages. Asked whether Starmer “regrets” considering giving Matthew Doyle an ambassadorship, the No10 spokesman said:
“You’ve got the Prime Minister’s language [in the House]. No, because he explained the context behind the question, he explained the experience of the individual, and he also explained very clearly to everyone that nothing ever came of those conversations.”
“You’ve got the PM’s words” was repeated at least five times in response to various questions relating to Doyle. Along with “what he said was… the words that he said“. Right.
Good news for Lammy at least: the PM still has confidence in him. Even if Downing Street keeps secrets from him…
Red Wall Labour backbencher Jonathan Brash told GB News that Starmer should resign:
“I’m completely fed up about it, and I think it’s got to the point now where I genuinely think that, as far as the Prime Minister is concerned, it’s not a case of if, it’s when.”
