A government Parliamentary Private Secretary is urging MP colleagues to come to an event promoting bread at the same time as the Humble Address is set to cause huge ructions in Labour. Starmer’s authority as PM is already sliced and diced as it is…
Treasury PPS Kirith Entwistle has invited MPs to her Thames Pavilion event with Warburtons in Parliament at 2 p.m. – exactly as the Humble Address proceedings are set to kick off. Don’t worry though: “Guests can also sample Warburtons’ new Fibre Fix range, as well as other goodies, and speak with the Warburtons team about how they are working to make higher-fibre choices simple and affordable for families.” Maybe Labour MPs can split their time – go half and half…
Follow events in the Commons here as they come – Nick Thomas Symonds will answer for Labour. It’s all kicking off after PMQs – votes are expected after 3 p.m…
Shadow national security minister Alicia Kearns told Times Radio she would have put a precondition on a China trip if she were PM:
“I would have put a precondition that I was not going to go if I was prime minister, unless Jimmy Lai was coming home with me. I would also put a precondition in the six months leading up to the visit that I wanted a reduction in hostile acts against our country. But that’s not what we saw. And actually, in contrast, what we saw was clearly the Chinese Communist Party did put a precondition, which was that the new embassy in London had to be signed off. So why is it okay for China to set preconditions and to make very clear red lines about what they require for a visit, but we go without having put any ourselves?”
