At the Lobby briefing of political journalists, Stamer’s spokesman said:
“It’s a pilot scheme, [it is] just one part of our approach. Numbers will fluctuate, that will continue as the pilot develops, but it tackles the premise of vile smuggling gangs.”
The PM’s spokesman could not actually say when the ‘pilot’ part of the scheme would end, only that “discussions are ongoing” with the French. For them it’s une bonne affaire…
