Labour – specifically Business Secretary Peter Kyle – has appointed a new raft of trade envoys this morning:
Also appointed is Calvin Bailey as Trade Envoy to the Republic of South Africa and Mauritius. Shadow Business Secretary Andrew Griffith hits out at that and tells Guido: “No doubt Labour’s new £34 billion man in Mauritius is going to be very popular indeed. But no amount of trade is going to make good Starmer’s catastrophic plans to surrender British territory.” Hardly fortuitous timing considering the events of this morning…
Co-conspirators may notice all of these new trade envoys are Labour MPs. The trade envoy role is meant to be cross-party…
Last January when 32 envoys were appointed Labour made at least a passing attempt at cross-partisanship by appointing one Tory, two LibDems, and a non-affiliated peer. This time they haven’t bothered. Labour jobs for Labour boys…
Following Andrew Rosindell’s defection, Nigel Farage posted on X:
“Andrew Rosindell will not be the last MP to put country before party before the deadline on May 7th.”
