Socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani is elected Mayor of New York. CBS News projected that the 34-year-old won 50.4% of the vote, compared to independent Andrew Cuomo’s 41.6% and Republican Curtis Sliwa’s 7%. More than 2 million people voted…
Mamdani – who describes himself as “Trump’s worst nightmare” – declared in his victory speech:
“This is not only how we stop Trump. It’s how we stop the next one. So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: ‘Turn the volume up’.”
President Trump took to Truth Social to say:
“TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,’ according to Pollsters.”
A reminder of what Mamdani has proposed:
Trump has threatened to withhold all but the most limited federal funding to the city if Mamdani wins. Good luck New Yorkers…
Paula Barker, Liverpool Wavertree MP backing Andy Burnham, told Times Radio there wouldn’t be trouble from the markets under Burnham:
“The markets will have to fall in line.”
