Badenoch has this morning slapped down Katie Lam for her comments in a Sunday Times interview in which the shadow minister suggested that Indefinite Leave to Remain would be stripped retroactively from migrants. This kicked off yesterday when the Tories backtracked on their previous private member’s Bill suggesting this was the case…
Badenoch said:
“No, we’re not being retrospective. When we put that amendment through, it was for a live Bill, so it wouldn’t have been retrospective. It was applied to a specific cohort… so she just stated it imprecisely.”
Lam’s position is more popular with Tories generally. Should probably work out what the policy is at some point…
Badenoch said at her speech on Monday morning: “We are absolutely ready to fight a general election. We saw the results in Aberdeen South: 50% of the vote. Because we can unite the country… It’s about uniting the country, for God’s sake, behind a centre-right agenda.”
