Rachel from Accounts may have been able to rewrite history on her CV – but mixing the cards on Labour’s disastrous imposition of VAT on private school fees is proving much more difficult. Even Reeves’s spin heavy press operation can’t cover up this latest howler…
The current incumbent at Her Majesty’s Tears-ury wrote an op ed in The Yorkshire Post over the weekend: “As the school term draws to a close it is a good opportunity for me to reflect on what the government is doing to ensure every child in Britain has the best possible start in life.” The class warfare article launches a predictable attack on independent education: “I have profound sense that the Conservative governments of the 1980s and early 1990s did not care about schools like mine or children from my background.” Curiously absent from the piece, though, is any mention of Fulneck School in the Chancellor’s own Leeds West and Pudsey constituency, which is closing this year after 270 years of teaching. A scathing BBC piece revealed that curious parents blamed the closure on the Chancellor’s VAT policy. Now locals are even angrier that Reeves has totally ignored the school in her Yorkshire Post missive…
“This is so insulting, and all anyone can say locally is that she has totally ignored the main school closing in her own backyard”, said a local source. Might not be writing op eds as Chancellor for much longer…
Former leader of the SNP in Westminster Ian Blackford told Times Radio why he believes Nicola Sturgeon’s claim that she spent no time in the kitchen and therefore didn’t see any of her husband’s purchases:
“She doesn’t have a passion for cooking.”
