Starmer appeared on Virgin Radio this morning – naturally Chris Evans asked him about Reeves. He said he didn’t notice his Chancellor of the Exchequer crying next to him…
“In a way if it’d been anybody else at work it would have not really been noticed and I mean I actually personally didn’t even appreciate it was happening in the chamber because I came in and I’ve got questions being fired at me and PMQs and so I’m sort of constantly up at the despatch box and down, but I think we just need to be clear it’s a personal matter and I’m not going to breach Rachel’s privacy by going into what’s a personal matter for her.”
He added Reeves’ tears were “nothing to do with politics or the ups and downs of this week.” Asked how the Chancellor of the Exchequer is doing today Starmer reassured listeners: “She’s fine. She’s good. As I said, I had a long chat with her last night. She’s very resilient and strong, is Rachel.” Thank goodness…
Sarah Pochin at Reform Scotland’s manifesto launch event: “I really wanted to come on in a Reform tartan burka, but apparently I wasn’t allowed… One day let’s do one of these events not live-streamed. We’ll do all the naughty stuff…”
